Since there is nothing else they can do to me, a few thoughts:
TheDieselPlace was created by Nick D'amico when he thought TheDieselPage was harming his fuel filter sales. But publically, he claimed that censorship, favoritism for certain vendors, and unequal rule enforcement were the real reasons.
Flash forward 4 years, and his board is the same as the one he claimed was "unfair".
Back in those days, the members actually sent Nick money to help keep the board running. They believed Nick's purpose was to help the Dmax enthusiast, and not for selfish reasons. But things slowly became clear.
When the board started to go haywire, many spoke out. Trying to fix TheDieselPlace from the inside failed, though. For the last 3 years, many of those who are on this board today, pleaded with Nick to reverse the trend of rabid favoritism for his pet Vendor. But to no avail. Nothing has changed for the better. Many of the hardcore Dmax owners left TheDieselPlace when they found themselves censored and treated as nuisances when they voiced legitimate complaints.
Today, some of the less scrupulous TheDieselPlace staff will chase members around the internet, spying on what they have to say. If they say anything that does not favor TheDieselPlace or it's staff, they will punish the member, either officially or otherwise.
Today, TheDieselPlace has spies in our board with the full blessing of TheDieselPlace Admin (this was confirmed by telephone conversation) who are in charge of collecting evidence against DieselPlace members, like a twisted version of the KGB.
This is not Diesel hot-rodding. It's a dumb ass game of Dungeons and Dragons. True enthusiasts are out of place at TDP, and must watch their every word with fear of being put on the "watch list" or banned. Not even the PM's are safe.
I'll admit I didn't want to be banned. I know hundreds of the members on that board personally, and perhaps ten times that many by the internet. More than either of the owners perhaps. And I posted more technical content than both of them combined. It was like home to me, and I spent countless hours promoting the board and events, and did testing and tutorials for the members. Why? They were my friends.
But there is no reason for me be a member there anymore. Everytime I post any tech content, there is a high chance I will be slandered with the full blessing of the owners. I imagine this essay will be taken as a slam on the moderators of TDP. It's not. They have done a good job and are not responsible for the actions of just 3 or 4 bad apples.
But I will continue to hotrod my truck with or without permission of TDP. And I will continue to discuss hotrod stuff with my friends; at the track, at events, and on the internet. Feel free to drop by and say "hi" now and then.
Just don't get caught!
