lets say we swaped a 6speed into a truck that had a ally and elec push button 4wd

can you still make the push button4wd work?

i was told that you cant, but i think you can but thats why im here asking questions 1st. the reason i was givin as to why it wouldnt work is because, the 4wd mod that controls the shifting wouldnt have a way to know if the trans was out of gear.

if this is true...i would think you can still get the signal the 4wd mod would need threw the neutral safty switch or the clutch pedal switch.

whats your thought on this guys...me and a friend are thinking about doing this swap to his truck.

I think you're on the right track in this thinking. But the time delay is going to be a problem when you forget and dump the clutch while the TC is partway shifted... and you KNOW you will.

you do have a good point...but with the push buttin 4wd you can shift from 2wd to 4wd high with out stoping as long as your going low speeds...
he needs low for when he goes pulling. and im guessing that the little light would light up the same when its in 4wd low wouldnt it? that would take the partway shifted tc prob out..

I'd guess you can shift to 4hi the same as with auto. ie; lift a bit when going in. 4lo is only with the trans completely unloaded which is N so maybe it would work as long as the electrical routine can be fooled.

you can shift into 4hi at any speed. it just not a good idea to do it under heavy load

can you put the nsbu on the frame rail in the neutral position so it send the signal you need?

good ideal just not sure. this is pretty much a can it be done kinda post. were not set on doing it or any thing
I think this would be mechanically possible but the electrical end IDK

Still keeping in mind that when shifting to 4hi while driving along with an auto trans you have the luxury of a torque converter as a cushion where an engaged clutch is not so 'cushioned'...

hehe yeha if the NSBU thing did work you would damn sure want to make sure you were not moving or anything and accidently bump that 4lo button. why not just find the floor shift t case and install it?

this truck has the center console..i myself like it. my friend that wants to do this, also brought up that point why not just use a manual tcase. that would be a lot of work. to remove the console, dash pannel etc other parts to make it look stock, and well i just dont want to. haha
all the parts to do it were looking at $4500 + our labor then the cost of a rebuilt tcase on top of that..hell for that kind of money we could just rebuilt the shot ally and be done.

we were going to leave the console, and just build a gear shifter that works with it..
