So i did a internal and external filter change on my Lb7 today and noticed that there is a small crack on the rear housing of the trans where the t-case bolts up. It lets out quite a bit of fluid when running also there is fluid coming from on top of the trans towards the front. I'm thinking that might be the vent on top but it only leaks when its running and does not have too much fluid. The other day i pulled from a stop sign normally and had no response but it reved up and it said shift range prohibited or something cant remember correctly. after it did that it slammed into gear and got stuck in second and wouldnt shift and could not shift manually. i added some fluid and turned it off and it started driving normally again. any idea on that? Sorry for the long post just concerned about it going out on me.

The best advice anyone can give you is to STOP DRIVING IT UNTIL YOU GET IT FIXED! If you keep driving it like that you are begging to have the crack open up which could let the back half of the trans fall off with your transfer case and driveshafts. They don't often break that way, but it can happen.

That would just totally suck ass and thanks for the advice I saw the brace they make for it just so that doesn't happen but its $150. Should I get it then just seal the housing until I get a new one. I have no other vehicle so I have no choice but to drive it.

Driving it is beggfing to be a youtube video here that could easily cost in excess of $10K in damages. You could easily break teh bellhousing along with the flexplate, or even break teh crankshaft if things get out of alignment and bound up. Of course this is worst case scenario, but driving it with a known cracked housing is begging for the worst case scenario to happen. It's your choice, pull the trans out, build it, and replace teh housing since you have another thread going about wanting to build it. Or keep driving it and possibly destroying your truck and being on the highway when large pieces of your drivetrain fall out.
