Ok, bout to throw some maintenance upgrades at the truck. It's a 06 I've put a trans go jr. in it, ppe standard levels ran on 2-4, fass 150, s&b, hot side pipe, blocked/rerouted, plugged, 188k now, did everything about 110k. tow a heavy gooseneck with my one ton crawler jeep. Lookin at the Garrett powermax stage 1or2. Question is will it be better than the stock turbo on the same ppe tune with the powermax? I know to go efi to achieve full potential, but will it be worthwhile to upgrade the turbo to this one with the ppe?

I haven't had a chance to install my fleece billet 63 but from everything I have read and heard from guys who have it is a great drop in charger.

And will that work well with a box tuner?

No. Your best bet is to upgrade to efi live, safer, cleaner, and much more efficient. I have a friend that is selling a stock turbo, with the compressor side machined and a 4094 (power max) wheel put in. Would be an awesome towing turbo for your power level.

Isn't the 4094 compressor wheel a 66 or 68mm wheel (I think it's 68!) and that can fit under the stock LBZ turbo compressor housing if it gets machined out?

I also had my stock turbo machined out for the 68mm 4094 wheel I had laying around from when I had my 4094 converted to the 72vvt. I had the wheel and I had the turbo sitting there so I said why not. Danville sells the 68mm 4094 wheels for 30 bucks IIRC.

If you already have a good condition stock turbo laying around, you can snag the 4094 wheel and have it machined and balanced for under $250, assuming danvilles or any of your local shops charge about the same as the shop that did mine. Even if you had to buy a good used turbo, you could still be into this nice little guy for under $600.

Ive never ran it so I cant say exactly how it performs, but I would assume it will spool dang near stock and have excellent driving manners.

How about you start with a solid transmission first. That shift kit may be doing okay now but it will not live for long and it will go south quick if you start throwing decent boost at it.

Ya I know it's gettin to its due time, should I just stick with a efi tune for now, tranny, then turbo. As far as the tranny, what price are we talkin, dd/tow rig on the weekends. I've seen about 4500-6500. Sound about right?

Do you have to machine the cartridge where the wheel sits or just the compressor housing?

As others have said tranny, efi live, then turbo. Built transmission, efi live, and stock turbo is a fun setup; you maybe happy with that and not need to up grade for awhile.

I and others have read good things about Danville's new GT3794va.

If I could run a VVT turbo I would like this one.

If you're wanting to keep the LBZ turbo then I could port/polish it, drop in a batmowheel or other billet wheel, rebuild/balance it, and install low profile vanes. If you do a lot of towing and want to have the turbo brake then you'll want to keep the stock vanes.

If you want to know anything else just ask.
