I know some of you guys have already done this to your LLY. Mines on, made a pretty noticable difference. Off idle response is a little better, butt dyno says biggest gains are from 2k rpm and up. Truck doesnt act like its running out of air anymore. For those of you running LLY's with stock mouthpieces, seriously consider changing it for that reason alone.

Im hoping to see the truck run a little cooler, but wont know till I get a few more miles on it.

Anyone explain this: Before I put this thing on, I could feel the truck shift when I had the pedal matted. Not a hard shift, but you knew it was happening. Now I only see an rpm drop but can't feel it shift anymore. So smooth it almost feels like a cvt. Love it, just curious to know why moving more air would help this.

Its a fairly easy install. Hardest part for me was my damn banana sized fingers and those little ass PCV tube bolts. All installed, still have good hood clearance, doesnt rub on egr cooler and the intake tube doesn't have a bunch of tension on it. For $80, well worth it to me.

Oh also ditched the PCV. Good thing too, lower intercooler boot has a lot of grime on it. Anyone got a good method for cleaning the pressure side of our intake without tearing thw whole thing out and apart??

I did this a while ago but have yet to get the truck on the dyno or to the track.

If the weather holds this week, I'll be running it on Wednesday night with the exact same setup, and tuning that I last ran with the stock LLY inlet.

We shall see. I know it's not a total scientific test but hopefully with all things remaining the same and just the inlet changed, we can get a pretty good idea of the difference.

Water meth kit would clean it up Wes:angel:

I need to do this!

W/M will clean the charge tubes and intercooler out?? I take it it would need to be installed right after the turbo to do the most good...... feed everything all the way through the inercooler??

Doesn't water meth usually go on post CAC? I'm probably wrong because that would be whacked to drop the temps (and pressure) of your air charge right before it goes into the motor.

Or does it go on at the y-bridge? Would it work good if it was that close?

Got a couple better pics during the day. On the second pic, you can see the hose running back over the drivers side...Thats the PCV reroute line, strapped to the outside of the frame so it wont swing back against the manifold or into the belt. Done the same way on the pass side, just cant see it under the intake. 5/8" ID heater hose will work perfect for this. I got 3ft lengths on either side. Using a 4" rubber coupler from home depot right now for the intake , but ordered a silicone boot to replace. Not a high pressure zone, I know, just dont rubber dry rotting and falling into the turbo from the heat.

If I had to guess about your shifting I would say it is making a little more power and that is what is smoothing your shifts out:confused:

I know it is making more power. It almost feels like a 50 hp tune was put in just by swapping that piece out. Whatever's causing it to shift this way is sweet. Hope it dont change. Like I said earlier, almost feels like a CVT its so smooth

Did you put on a stock mouthpiece? I've heard about ported pieces as well. Mine is real laggy until boost comes on.

New mp will get rid of lag. Hardly any at all now. Have heard my fan come on once in the last couple days... usually runs a helluva lot more than that out here too.

Its a stock LBZ mouth piece

What he said.... ^^

Thanks Paul

I just did this mod a couple of weeks ago and it is definetely worth the 100 dollars. I also cut my air box to help it breath a little better, and I noticed some difference in the preformance. It seemed to cut down on the lagg a little bit, and I also capped off the resinator (sp) for a little deeper sound.

I still have my stock lly mouthpiece if anyone would be interested in it for modding. $65+shipping obo

I've done two of these mods, one on our 05 tow dually, it was awful before, no power, got hot quick and didn't pull the hills well at all towing our race trailer, (15,000lbs). Installed a AFE 4" exhaust (turbo back) and an entire LBZ stock intake, (Rob had to adjust the voltages or the MAF would limp the motor) and it is a whole new truck. Way more power, runs much cooler both egt's and engine temp. I would have never thought such a simple mod could make such a huge difference.

The other one was on a buddy's 05 which he tows a 34' Montana 5th wheel. His truck smoked bad even on a 65hp Predator tune. He still has the stock exhaust and I left the PCV crap on at his insistence. The intake was a mod offered by RickD. Easy install, truck much less lag, runs cooler, no smoke. He's a happy camper. Trying to get him to do an exhaust and egr blocker along with the PCV reroute. He's a retired engineer and a bit of a rock head.

The hardest part of any of this is getting my old body draped over the engine so I could get that mouth piece changed out. I need one of those engine work stands you can lay on and use both hands. I'm getting to old to do this crap.
