I assume that it would bolt up but what else is different? If I was to put the LB7 Turbo on it and ditch the VVT would the rest of it be plug and play? I think I found a deal on a used LBZ with 36k miles....

As the thread Kat linked states, pretty much all you can use is the LBZ shortblock (have to change the reluctor ring though); Top end won't work.

Do you mean electronics and all or just the shortblock and keep your LB7 heads and electronics? If you want it to become LBZ electronics, I think that'd be a nightmare short of a stand alone harness because the 01-02 LB7s have completely different wiring system. Might be a manageable swap if it were an 03-04 LB7 because people have converted those from LB7 to LLY. Regardless, the electronics would be a PITA I think.

If you just mean using the short block, there are some small differences but, in short, yes, they are usuable and apparently the LBZ block is stronger. I'd swap pistons though. :D I think the reluctor wheel is different - different number of teeth between LB7/LLY and the LBZ IIRC.

It helps a bit, but I am talking pulling the LB7 out and putting the LBZ in.

If you're talking complete LBZ, ECM, TCM and such, stop there... Forget it. Will not happen unless you have EVERYTHING (and I DO mean EVERYTHING) from a doaner truck (all harnesses, ECM, TCM, BCM, EBCM, Radio, Amp, Cluster, HVAC components, RSE if applicable, PDM, DDM, XM if applicable, Onstar if applicable, TCCM, probably a module or four that I'm forgetting), it will not work. LB7 injectors won't work in the LBZ heads, you can't drive the LBZ injectors with the LB7 FICM. The ONLY thing you can use in your LB7 is the shortblock.

I'll be converting my 04 LLY to a LBZ ECM, TCM and motor, but an 03+ is WAAAAYYY different from the 01-02 trucks.

thats what i wanted to know, I am pretty sure there is nothing wrong w/ my truck other than the HG, but I was trying to save time by possible just doing an engine R&R instead of yanking it, fixing it, then putting it back in. Thanks for the replies guys!
