Supposed to say LBZ identification out of truck
Hey all,
I'm going to look at a used engine.
He says it was out of an 06.
My injectors went open while towing uphill.
Melted at least 2 pistons and bent rod.
I know the injectors are visible on the LBZ and buried on the LLY
I need to know how to tell the difference between an LBZ and LMM.
I can also pull the PTO cover from the trans because the LBZ was the last year that still came with PTO gears
Smoking deal 1500.00 with trans and it's a runner.
Out of a t-boned truck
Guy was going to do a project but is selling everything due to back injury.
68,000 miles
Everything is on the engine.
I at least gotta check it out.
It can probably be salvaged for twice that much

LB7 injectors are hidden not LLY.

My LMM has pto gears and covers.

Trans will have a date code on the tag, can get engine type of block casting numbers if you can't tell by looks.

And lly will have an FICM.

If all the stock components are there, if it's an lmm it will have a throttle plate on the intake before the grid heater also.

LBZ id

Thanks guys,
The easiest I see is the egr cooler.
Very different through production codes.
LBZ is round with opposing inlet/outlet
LMM is more square
LLY looks like a straight pipe with an inlet/outlet
And trans date code could finalize it.

If you need an engine identified 100% just post a picture here.

As far as PTO gears, IIRC it became an option on 03+ so gm could save money. My 04 just has a tone wheel.
