Is it possible to just use a blocker plate for up pipe plates for intake and then just run straight section of heater hose? Will that work?

The normal blocker plate is not thick enough to run by itself to block the up riser pipe off.

If you look the cap is thicker and also uses a tab when the cooler is removed to keep the pipe from moving.
