I'm looking for any members with....

EFI Live
LBZ
Willing to test out my MPG tunes that I'm trying to perfect.

With all of the talk about peoples bad mileage with LBZ's we are still trying to maximize the economy of these trucks while lly's and lb7s are capable of great mileage. I want to get a group together with variations in types of driving (hwy/city) crew/ext/reg cabs average speed and modifications etc.

If you're interested please send me an email with...

Name:
Email Address:
Odometer reading:
Appx miles per week (#hwy / #city):
Avg hwy speed:
Type of cab:
Tire size:
Lift:
Modifications that could effect economy (no radios etc):
Truck weight:
Towing:
Any other info you think might be pertinent:

My goal in this tune is to achieve higher MPG than you can get with the stock lbz tune. This is not to increase performance but, economy. At each fill up email me your hand calc'd mileage and I'll start to compile some data and work from there.

Depending on how many people respond I may have to pick and choose as to not overwhelm myself with work before its begun :D
This will also be posted on TDP but Team Salad Members will have first preference!

Thanks for the support everybody!

Id definitely be interested, however I dont drive my truck daily. My truck is mainly a highway queen since I have a company truck for around town driving. I could help you out alot on straight highway driving. Ill be making 5-6 4-500 mile round trip highway drives and one 1000 mile roundtrip towing 6K. Details in my sig, currently dont have the bd manifold and downpipe installed(broken ankle has slowed that down:rolleyes:) If you believe I could be of some assistance let me know.

Thanks for the interest everybody, I'm going away for a long weekend and I should be back Wednesday night. I'll try and have the first tune out by Thursday night at the latest If I can't get it done before I leave on Saturday.

Maybe post it in the tune library. I would be more than happy to test out your tune. I have been working on one myself that kind of went in the shtter. I was getting between 21 to 24mpg hand calculated with it in my truck with a 6" lift and 35" tires, but it wasn't shifting very well at all. A really rough tune at best.

Sounds like you were really onto something with those numbers and your lift and tires! I'd like to take a look at it sometime when I have the time, maybe we could work out that shifting problem.

My lbz got great milage with Robs big tune in it over any other tunes I had for it. Just had to keep your foot out of it to see any good results. Back and forth to the Ozarks unloaded I averaged just at 21mpg in it. Thats with the stock 245's on it. My first lb7 I had got 22-23 with 265's on it. Same size trucks with pretty much same options.

My LBZ get great mileage even stock on 265s

My uncle had real bad mileage issues with his.

What I found was his EGR was toast. He would leave the truck idle a lot. This caused the engine to get pumped full of junk and for the turbo to be laggy. I by product of this was it plugged the cat up.

I took the cat off and knocked the guts out of it. It had this black creosote looking build up in it. Put a blocker plate on the EGR. I also pressure tested the air charge system.

FWIW I believe most LBZ mileage issues are related to what I listed above. Instead of searching for what is wrong many just use tuning.

I highly recommend before tuning you should blocker plate your EGR, Hollow out your cat, and pressure test everything from the turbo outlet to the intake.:thumb:

Kyle, if you're still doing this, I'm interested. I drive my truck every day, usually at least 50 miles a day. Since the swap, I've been getting about 14MPG with the mix of highway @ 65ish/stop & go driving I do. Best Straight highway was 18 or 19 running between 65 & 75. Shoot me a PM if you want another volunteer.

he guys this was a couple years ago. i have shy'd away from that. i was getting decent numbers but soon realized with x displacement and y weight you are going to use z fuel to get a mpg and the numbers just were not going to get any better without a degree from mit.

i am not that smart so i focused on going faster which is more expensive but a little more easy for my brain to do :)

Ya'll should try my mileage tune in the library. I haven't seen much of an increase at speeds over 65, but it looks like a nice increase in more stop and go. My current commute is 90/10 Hwy/city and takes 40mins 1 way @ 60mph with no traffic and will go over 80mins if its bad. Last week traffic was real light and I got 21.5 the worse it has been was 20.5. Thats keeping the RPMs under 2000 and no more then 2 WOT runs in a tank.
