so im looking for a bed/cab configuration in an lbz that most 1500s dont offer. i want the full size cab, ie, four doors, but a full 6.5 foot bed. get four doors in a 1500, and youre stuck with a 5.5 foot bed. is this something ever offered on a 2wd lbz duramax? tough to find in 2wd or at all?

You really dont know the first thing about GM trucks, do you?

D in the 8th digit of the VIN. What other diesel engine would you expect to find in those 2 years?

CC/SB Duramax trucks are a dime a dozen. 4wd are more common than 2wd. Start looking on AutoTrader or Cars.com.

what other diesel engine would i expect? an 06 lly or an 07lmm, geez buddy why cracking down so hard? am i not suppose to come here and ask questions. there are 3 engines over a 2 year period and you ask me what other diesel engine would i expect? when looking on ebay or whereever with the vin, i just need the quick decode lesson.

i appreciate that cc/sb are a dime a dozen. i know this already. my questions is, did they come with 3 different bed sizes? 5.5 6.5 and 8 foot beds, or what bed sizes can i expect to find with a four door, the full crew not the extended cab. id really like the extra foot worth of truck over my current 1500. 2013s are now offering full four doors with a full 6.5 foot bed in almost any 1500, im just asking did they offer this back in 06-07 with the 2500s

2006 was last yr for 1500s in the 6.5 bed. Everything newer in 1500 chasis comes with 5.5ft. U can get 1500hds in the 6.5 bed still. All duramaxs come with 6.5 or 8ft bed. U can only get duallys in 8ft bed.

Other than the calibration in the ECM, an 06 LLY is exactly the same as an LBZ. If the body style is the new one, it is an LMM. There's really no need to check a VIN if you're looking at an 06 or 07 unless you just have to have an actual LBZ.

But without asking, how we ever going to get our answers..Kinda makes me not even want to ask anymore because if i would of got a reply like that to a question I asked, id be banned for giving you my true feeling to your reply....

Guys this is a VERY performance oriented forum, most of these questions have been covered time and time again, if you search I am sure you would find your answer, there are some other forums that are not as performance oriented as this one that cover these "basic" things also. People here are very helpful, don't be lazy, read and search there is a lot of info available :thumb:

but... do they all have the 6 speed tranny. i came across a post somewhere that said some early 06s still had the weaker 5 speed. thats another reason id look for the lbz vin when searching online, just to make sure i dont get an early 06 with the weaker trans.

so if im looking at a duramax, it will NOT have a 5.5 ft bed. good info. that gives me the extra foot of truck space that i need for my tools. thanks.

No Dmax comes with the 5.5 bed and if it has a 6-speed trans it has to be an 06 or newer truck. It may be an LLY but as mentioned already the 06 LLY is only a detuned LBZ. If I was buying a truck I would not hesitate to get an 06 LLY.

There were no 5 speed Allisons in 06. Everything other than the programming in the ECM of an 06 LLY is exactly the same as an LBZ.

D in the 8th digit of the VIN. What other diesel engine would you expect to find in those 2 years?

then an 06 with a 2 in the 8th vin spot like this one... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/06-S...2463727?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item2a29f3b46f

is an lly. and just to sum up. same great engine. IF it is a 6 speed, same great transmission. how do you tune an 06 lly. if you tune it with a tuner, it doesnt matter if it was an lly or lbz right, cause it gets all new tune and they would be equal right.

my other question is, is it true that some 06 llys have the 5 speed transmission that isnt quite as strong?
