We've got a lbz/allison/combo here thats getting shoehorned under the cab of an early 40's ford cabover. We are at the point of connecting the shifter to the street rod style ididit column we will be using in this truck and I have a questions in regard to the shifter and it's detents. My question for your trans gurus is how many detents are required for proper operation? Obviously P,R,N,OD,D ?? but beyond drive or OD how many more positions are there? I'm not sure it I will be integrating the tapshift feature in this build either. If i can delete it i likely will. Can you manually pull the lever into low gear or is it computer controlled?

If this is a 6 speed from a 2500/3500 pickup, then the detents will be PRNDM1. You don't have to hook up the tapshift, but you will only have all 6 gears or 1st only this way. Your other option is to use a medium duty calibration which can be flashed to be a 6 speed. It will give you PRND321. You would have to wire in a 4500/5500 BCM if you wanted to be able to lockout 5th and run in 4th, and if you have it flashed to a 6 speed there is no way to lockout 6th and run in 5th. Personally the tapshift option from the 2500/3500 trucks is the better option IMO.
