i just got my pickup put back together after doing rods and mains, took it for a test drive and it wont shift when in D, shifts in to P, R, N and D. It has a U1000 code and P0700 but when i try to check the transmission codes the scan tool cannot connect to the tcm to read codes.

Ive cleaned the battery cables, the grounds, tested power and grounds to the tcm and checked the serial data wires and they all tested good. Is there anyway to test the TCM to see if its bad?

Bad TCM's are rare. Get a real scanner and get codes. Could be disconnected speed sensor.

I've been using a genisys otc scanner and tried my autocal but neither give will connect to read the tcm codes. What kind of scanner do I need to read these codes?

What gear is it in when you shift to D?

Clear the comm code and see if you can connect then.

Checked the fuse and it was good still replaced it just in case, that was one of the things I tested right away

Check wire # 30 at the gray TCM connector. It goes right to the ECM. Problem is; the ABS, Instrument panel, and body control module are also connected to wire # 30. A short in any of these connections will cause your problem.

I am having problems with the transfer case module now too I get a c0308 code which is a short to ground on circuit a or b could this be causing it? and what should I be looking for on #30 voltage or continuity?

with the tech 2 and the Genesis I can read all the modules except the tcm Idk if that helps

Well found why tcm wasn't communicating with the rest of the modules, the harness was pulled tight and broke the wire I ended up cutting the connector off and splicing about 6 inches of extra wire on and crimping new weather resistant connectors on
