lb7 valve adjustment question

so, im adjusting the valve lash on my 01 lb7 and a couple of them seem like I had to back the adjustment screw out way too far to get the right clearance. most of them have about 2 threads sticking out above the nut, but a couple have twice that and are still kinda tight. ill try to take a pic of it, but i was just wondering if this is normal. its my first time doing it on a duramax. i used the procedure from the merchant automotive website where you do half of them on the intake stroke and the rest on the exhaust stroke. sorry for my dumb question, but i havent found much info on this.

valve lash should be set at .010 i'm not familiar with the merchant automotive procedure but i've done them on the compression stroke, that is the most reliable method of getting them done. this will ensure you are on the base circle of the cam and get an accurate lash setting. essentially, after the intake valve closes the piston should be on the compressions stroke for sufficient degrees to get it done.

Stock lash is .012 IIRC. I put mine to .010.

i set mine at .012, but a little on the snug side. (couldnt find .010 feeler gauge) i found a write up on here and went through again and re adjusted them. i had a couple of them jacked off. all good now- i hope. thanks for the replies. now i hope i can find where all the small parts go since i let it sit a while after tearing it apart. 1st head gasket/injector job on this truck. i dont want to do it again any time soon.

As long as you were doing it right and everything is assembled correctly merchants directions should of worked just fine.
