LB7 Return Line Seals - Tightening them too tight?

OK, I'm replacing my injectors on 2004 LB7. While putting on the return lines the torque is 12lbs, if I read correctly. When I tighten them the top seal breaks away from the bottom seal via the "stick" connector piece. Is this normal???? Or should they just be tightened enough prior to this part breaking away?????

Doesn't matter if they break. 12ft lbs is 12ft lbs
Are you sure your wrench is accurate?
