so had something weird happen to me tonight we got a baby sitter lol jk but really we got a sitter so me and the lady went out on a date and for a change i took my lb7 now i normally just drive this truck around town and to work so it only goes a couple miles here and there so i never noticed a problem

now when we were driveing i saw the the truck wanst getting warm after driveing about 10 miles it was barley above 160 and the hole trip it stayed around there we drove over a hundered miles tonight now the temp outside was around 35 the truck is a rclb 2wd over 200k on it this trip it was on level 3 from a ppe standard now the truck didnt miss a beat ran fine
the hole trip

what could cause a truck to not get hot i know it was a little cold outside but not cold enought to keep it from warming up do u guys have any ideas i didnt get any hard numbers everything was just what the truck told me now that i think about it the truck used to be a farm tuck wonder if they pulled the theromstates outa it humm what do u guys think

Anything below about 40 and mine never goes up to the 210 mark.....on the CTS it reads about 170-178 but gauge shows 165 or below, is the same way on both my LB7 and LLY.

See if your heater works after driving it for a bit. If the air doesn't get hot you know its time for tstats.

I had this problem last year I think it was and on my insight cts the temp would only get up to 140 driving around on the street and on the freeway would go up to like 163 but when I would get off and just ideal it would drop back down into the 130s to 140s.
I changed the stats and now it sits at 181 driving around and the morning temps have been in the high 20s to low 40s.
I would check and make sure its not your gauge first though.

I typically see 180* or so under normal driving load and drop to about 170* at idle when the outside temp is mid 30s so you aren't far off. I need to put the winter cover on here shortly.

Wasson for shits and giggles since my GMC is a bit under the normal coolant temp (160-170*) I blocked about 90% of my oil cooler. Oil was 180* or just above and coolant stayed at 167-170 so I think I have sticky stats as well. Oriely's has a set for like 40 bucks.

Having installed O'Reilly parts, removed and installed a replacement, replaced again, and finally given up and installed OEM parts, I would STRONGLY recommend spending a few extra bucks on the ACDelco or OEM part. It will save you time and headache (and possibly money) down the road.

Since this topic is already up.... my truck is kind of like the OPs, drive it every now and then on the road, i noticed my insight reading a temp of 145, lately a max of about 160 will be reached and thats interstate driving at 70 mph for about 20 miles, but gauge reads 180-185. My cluster is new and with heat on 90 itll get hot. I dont usually drive it in the winter so im not sure how normal it is acting. This is on my LLY by the way

Brian with the temps in the high 20s to low 40s in the mornings going to work and with my oil cooler 100% open to the air my coolant temps were 181 and my oil temps were 180-185 I have since blocked it 100% from the air coming through it and my coolant has stayed the same and now my oil runs 190-194.

I have also been screwed by buying cheap stats so I bought OEM from the dealer but they did bend me over on the price I prob should have looked for them online but I havent had anyproblems with them yet.

I have used thermostats from several parts stores and haven't ran into a problem yet.

I run ~170 for my coolant temp at 15 degrees above zero. I tried new stats, coldfront, cardboard. Everything. These trucks just dont seem to get hot like a gasser when the temp outside is cold.
