Ok guys I'm in the process of buying an epr twin kit with an s475 over stock and getting a great deal on it. Im wanting to do head studs, head gaskets, injectors, and maybe rods. I'm wanting around 650 horse and everyone keeps telling me to just do Carillo rods and get it over with. But if I don't have to I don't want to. Just curious if there's anything you guys suggest doing while I have the motor out? Not wanting to spend a whole ton of money on it

Carillo rods a must IMO. I know you're sick of hearing it but everyone is telling you the same thing for a reason. They have proven themselves over and over again. Never a better time to put them in. If I had to do my build over again I would have done an Alternate Fire cam, Fingers cast oval pistons, upgraded pushrods, and a new Oil cooler.

Main studs, new oil pump, Clevite bearings, upgraded valve springs, and new CP3 in the valley is also a good thing to do while the engine is out. I'm sure I missed a few things

It's really the same conversation as the built trans questions that pop up all the time. The answer is still the same... Pay a little more ya but DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME and save money in the long run. Skimp on certain things and you very well may end up doing it all over again

throw on the twin kit and just run it for a while and save up money to do it right. If your tuner knows what he's doing your motor should live a little while atleast

Good point, what would you say if I told you my head gaskets are leaking?

When you crack those fuel lines your going to fill them sticks with rust and dirt, clean them really well or maybe a set of remands might save you some grief.

Wanting to put new sticks in there if the budget allows it, thanks for the tip though

You could look over at my LB7 7 build thread to see some pics of the mods that should be done on the internals for reliability. found these tips by doing some searching on here.

Anyone looking for a brand new built long block? Mine will be done here shortly and it looks like I'm not going to be able to enjoy it. Have to move and change careers. Can't afford to keep it... I would make someone a hell of a deal.
