LB7 Dies after starting in cold weather....

So I have developed a "stalling" condition in my 04 LB7, in temps under 30*F the truck starts up and idles for about 30 seconds and then stalls. Once I prime the fuel filter it starts right up again and stays running. On days above 30* it starts and idles without issue. I thought this might have been my filter head leaking so I rebuilt it, but it did not solve the issue. Anyone have any ideas?

Even though you rebuilt the filter head, is the primer soft in the morning before you start it. Could be fuel leaking on the motor side causing it to lose prime...

What is the history on the injectors, have they ever been replaced etc...do you have fuel in the oil or any type of smoke during idling or driving hot or cold

X2. For less than $150 you can retrofit a later model filter head with a new filter and wif to your truck. Then you know it isn't a problem in the filter head. I don't rebuild them either.

They are different I thought they were all the same between years?

Lb7 fittings are angled different. Lly + are different but hoses can be rerouted to fit. Lml fittings are the same but the bleeder is in a different spot and no fuel heater.

So other than fittings the design is unchanged. So how would retrofitting a different one fix the problem.
A new lb7 filter housing is over $500. If it can even be found. An 05 filter housing is $125 or less. The 05 and newer still fail too.

If you want to replace your potentially bad lb7 filter housing and don't want to pay a stupid amount for it order one for an 05. You'll also need about 3' of 1/2" fuel line and 4 hose clamps. Just make loops with the hose so there aren't any sharp bends.

Good info there. I had no idea there were different between years and the price was that ridiculous.

Either way OP find out if the filter head primer is soft on the cold morning before you start it. If it is soft then yes continue with the filter head idea. If not you might have a different issue.
