Just wondering if any of you are being affected by the mass layoffs.

I am doing good so far. I did not get laid off, yet. They laid off 29 salary and 125 hourly at the plant where I work. Company laid off 8600 worldwide.:(

I've been off since the week before christmas. This is fairly normal though as we do most of our work outside and the weather hasn't been very good. Lots of snow and cold.

I usually get laid off during the worst winter months anyway, but this year it did come early and sounds like we'll go back to work later as well. It sucks but I'm just glad to still have a job at all. Sounds like a lot of people aren't so lucky these days. It's sad to say but I think it's going to get worse before it gets better. :(

Its crazy to know how many people are unemployed right now, its pretty sad. Luckily im good so far, our apprenticeship is based on seniority, and im in my last year, once we test out though, with our union there is no senority for mechanics. So pretty much to keep your job during slow times you have to prove yourself with skill and working habits, and for the most part you can decide if you stay at work or not. Luckily with elevators we never really slow down that much, during the slowest part of the year we might have 15 people on the bench but as far as the service side, it never slows down.

I have been vary lucky so far. I work for a small family owned business that considers lay off's a last resort. Last year's 1st quarter was bad and no one was layed off. I have enough seniority now I should be good.

I thought had enough time in to keep me safe, 9 years this month. It is not looking good though, if you were hired after 2003 you are already gone. In a way it would be a releif to get laid off so you don't have to worry everyday you go in if your number is up :(

I`m good so far. But a lot is happening in my industry right now that could take any supplier down this year. We were all too heavily inventoried on high price materials when the bottom dropped out last fall. It has become a blood bath these last 10 days to two weeks with several of my competitors slashing their throats and ours in an attempt to rid themselves of the high priced inventory and simply generate a sale and cash flow. I`ve had no choice but to follow suit to resurrect my sales. It`s just plain ugly. But....the company I work for is pretty deep and relatively financially stable, so hopefully we will survive this crisis year.

Air Force laid me off last year after 12 years of service as an officer, ILE, Master’s degree, DP to Maj, and great reviews. Army wanted me and my experience. Thank God I’m still employed by the military, luckily in today's mess. AF never deployed me, 4 months into the Army and I’m now 7,000 miles away. At least I still have a job and hopefully a retirement.

Well I have the next three Fridays off, unpaid. There is talk now of every Friday in March and possibly a whole week off, too. :(

:( Sorry to hear that.

Things have slowed down at Pat's real job. But, so far we have only had to send the guys home a few hours here and there.

The company I work for hasn't laid anyone off due to the economy. Luckily the solid waste/drinking water/wastewater/air engineering is still pretty strong and not nearly as effected by the economy as many other consumer-based sectors. Luckily I haven't had to worry about my job security so much. I feel terrible for you folks that have. Some of my best friends are feeling the crunch and having "fire sales" on their assets to try and make it through the storm. I really hate it for them. :(

I pray often about this. I truly wish everyone the best always and especially in these hard and trying times.

Sincerely

That sucks! I didn't know. Are you hanging in there?

I need to pay my truck off thats all I really want if the $hit hits the fan. I don't have any kids so that makes it not as bad

Nobody in our center has been laid off yet. Thank God. Normally this time of year the lower-seniority drivers are "on-call".

As I was walking to my truck this morning, I commented to my supervisor how all the trucks were still full. He was happy to see it too.
