Looking to buy a laptop just for tunning. I want to get a 10.1" screen. What specs should I be looking for in one? Example, how much memory, ram, ect. The sole use of the laptop will be for tuning and nothing else!

Please feel free to post links. :)

I got an "acer aspire one" for like $170 and it works great for tuning and logging. It fits in my fold up bottom in the center from seat perfectly too. Battery life is good too. It never leaves the truck hot or cold and have had 0 issues in about 2 years

I have an older ASUS 1005HA 10.1" netbook. It initially got it as a tool for my business (figured it'd be easy to carry around, good battery life, I swapped a SSD in it) before I bought my Duramax. Now that I own a Duramax, I use my ASUS for EFI and have recently purchased a Getac S400 for my work machine now that I am out in the oil fields running around doing PLC, Scalance, Radio, and tower work.

At first I loved working with EFI on my netbook. Now the more and more I use my Getac for work, I am getting used to the larger screen (14" vs 10.1") I am starting to lean towards using (or buying another) Getac for EFI and all the other truck stuff I do on my computer. I find it annoying sometimes to scroll all over the place to see a complete table in EFI vs seeing it all on one screen without having to scroll with the Getac. There are pro's and con's to each, the larger computer with the bigger screen and faster processor and more ram will definitely do the job. But you will suffer when it comes to battery life. The smaller netbook will still run EFI, it may be a pain to scroll around on the screen to view tables (IMO) and you can pretty much run an entire day at the track or a dyno session on one full battery charge.

BUT :D I have a 1000 watt inverter that will be wired into my truck that will be mounted down under the center console and have outlets on my dash as well as USB charging ports for cell phones / other USB devices here in the near future. So power or battery life may not be a consideration if you go that route.

Whichever route you go, be sure and go into the power save settings on the computer under the "running on battery" settings and adjust things like the screen brightness, how long before the screen shuts off, ect.. to gain maximum battery life. Also when you're at the track or some place where you dont need internet, turn your wireless adapter and other things of the like to further your battery life.

Just some food for thought!

Edit: Also going back and forth from one machine to the other, I have noticed that my netbook seems like a COMPLETE dinosaur compared to the Getac given the Getac has a core i5 processor and 8GB of RAM vs my old ass ASUS rocking a blazing fast atom 1.8 with a staggering 2GB of RAM. I know processor speeds and whatnot have come a long way in the 3-4 years since I purchased my ASUS, so you should be able to find a pretty speedy little workhorse for your EFI needs without hurting the checkbook too bad.

I have a 17" HP laptop but that's just to big to be lugging around in the truck. That's why I want the smaller screen.

Who makes the Rugged?

I got the same one. I got a BIG battery off ebay for $30 and it can run all day. The clarity is perfect and price is great.

Yep that's the one I have. Had the same CPU as the other net books (the Intel Atom) and I have got to say, for anything other than one process at a time it is just horrifically slow. For running EFI and scanning/flashing/logging the value of one of these can't be beat. I keep mine with the V2 all the time.

I hate the little tiny laptops. The screen is too small to see any of the tables without scrolling all over the place, and the keyboards are too small for my fat fingers. I would just get a normal sized laptop and set up your V2 for BBF and BBL. I haven't tried BBF yet, but BBL works like a charm. You can log both ECM and TCM parameters with a lot more channels.

Black box logging and black box flashing. You don't need a laptop to do it. You just have to setup the V2 to make it work.
