I used to have a Compaq Presario C700....not a good machine!

Replaced it a few weeks ago with an ASUS G51J.....Absolutlly love this machine! Leaps and bounds better! I use mine for everything besides EFI, internet and all that. This one is a gaming laptop, becuase i run my flight sim on it so its got a powerful CPU, graphics card and all that. Depends on all what u want to do with yours besides EFI, on how many features you want. I liked the Sonys before too, but there pricey and didnt hear good about quality and customer service, just what i heard.

Before i got this new one, wanted a Lenovo pretty bad. There pretty good machines from what id read, and decent prices. All my computer savy friends told me to check ASUS out (not acer). I was surprised to find, better things for less money compared to Lenovo's. ASUS also has a badass warrentee on there stuff. I was impressed! My friends little ASUS netbook is awsome to, i want one! Id deff check them out. Mine came from Newegg.com, good prices, reviews and all that in one place. Shipped fast too. :thumb:

Basically anything with xp will work great for tuning if that's all you wanna do

For all around computer use I like Sony. And best had a good deal going on them now. You can get one with a blue Ray player 4gig ram 500gig HD and 2.14 processor for 730 bucks. Whatever you do don't het an HP. I spent 900 on a really nice one 2 years ago and a few months back it suffered a motherboard failure. Which I learned is common with them. Right after warranty is up

I like mac. It will cost a little more to get everything to work correctly with efi live, but the laptop will last a long time. I remember reading a few months back that dell, hp, and a few other brands had a 20% failure rate in 3 years. That is not a good number.

I have a dell 1525 and it's a pile of dog poop. Have had to replace the memory sticks, chargers, battery in less than 2 years...

I used the Lenovo in class a few month's back. I did NOT like it. I had problems with Office on it. And the wireless internet connection. And it wouldn't log on to the school's domain correctly. It did have a problem with resetting it's configuration back to before I got it working right. No one in class (even the instructor and IT department.) would touch it.

i have the same one that redbowtie88 discussed. except it was a little cheaper on black friday i guess lol. to me, if i get 3 years out of a computer that gets taken to the truck alot, moved around the house, out in the shop, plays music all the time, and dont have any major problems, then its a good $400 i spend. the 3 yr warranty is what sold it to me. the only thing about windows 7 is alot of programs havnt been made to run on windows 7. i had a hard time getting efi to work because i had to manually show it the drivers.

I have a Compaq F700. I bought it almost 2 years ago. About a month after I bought it something died in it, and I had to take it back to Best Buy to get it replaced. I've had no problems with it since then.

im lookin to buy a laptop before i get efi live any suggestions. so far i like the sony

It really depends on what your doing to do with it. Alot like having a truck. Are you gaming, photo editing, any intense graphic program and your going to want a dedicated video card in the laptop, not integrated onto the motherboard. And around 4GB of RAM. That is the sweet spot. And make sure you have Win 7 64-bit to take advantage of the 4GB. If you aren't doing any of those get the cheapest laptop with a dual core you can find. The main thing you'll want to look for is the Warranty. Nothing sucks more then when your puter stops working. :thumb:

Got an acer aspire and absolutely love it. No problems so far and and it's small enough(about 9"x8") to fit under my amp rack under the back seat. It's sole purpose is for EFI so the $250 price tag was a no brainer for me.
