So I start talking to a friend of my girlfriend. He says he knows a lot about diesel. So, playing dumb, i start trying to get what he knows out of him. Here is an account of our conversation that occured over yahoo messenger.
To protect his identity i changed his username to brandon.
It starts mid-coversation with me asking him for advice for a tuning business. ( included a little commentary )
Brandon (1/11/2009 8:56:54 PM): with a tablet pc it can be docked in a truck and use it for on the fly tuning if someone wants to purchase a high dollar setup/
hawkseye2 (1/11/2009 8:58:44 PM): thats what i do currently for scanning
brandon (1/11/2009 8:59:36 PM): ok well if your using a
laptop already what you want to do is try to sell people on purchasing the system where you sell them the laptop to plug into the computer and they can change the fuel delivery on the fly
hawkseye2 (1/11/2009 8:59:52 PM): efi live doesnt work like that
hawkseye2 (1/11/2009 9:00:05 PM): its a reflash of the ecm
brandon (1/11/2009 9:00:10 PM): again on another level
brandon (1/11/2009 9:00:21 PM): EFI live is for ecm remapping
hawkseye2 (1/11/2009 9:00:26 PM): right
hawkseye2 (1/11/2009 9:00:49 PM): its possible to make a dsp2 or dsp5 tune where 2 or 5 tunes can be swtiched on the fly
brandon (1/11/2009 9:03:07 PM): true. of course when your dealing with computerized unit like i was describing what it does is makes where you have a mobile unit in the truck where all you have to do is pull up the ECM module on the screen and you can adjust the fuel rate and the air ratio
(do we really have to worry about air/fuel ratios with our trucks? i mean cmon.. )
brandon (1/11/2009 9:03:29 PM): also on some newer trucks you would even be able to manage air temperature
(like how?)
brandon (1/11/2009 9:04:11 PM): in turn making the consumption of fuel more practical and making better use of your money
hawkseye2 (1/11/2009 9:05:43 PM): is this with the prolink program you mentioned eariler?
brandon (1/11/2009 9:06:04 PM): no prolink actually does several different things
hawkseye2 (1/11/2009 9:06:23 PM): what program are you talking about?
brandon (1/11/2009 9:06:43 PM): its called driveSMART
brandon (1/11/2009 9:07:09 PM): prolink diagnoses problems and can fix them or let you know what needs to be done to fix them
brandon (1/11/2009 9:07:21 PM): and in turn allows fuel management
hawkseye2 (1/11/2009 9:07:32 PM): ah i see
brandon (1/11/2009 9:08:51 PM): yea
So went online and checked for the program he was talking about (driveSMART) and this is what i found...
http://www.download.com/DriveSMART/3000-2248_4-10310574.html
"DriveSMART is an essential tool to report the health of your hard disk drive and can be used in tandem with CompuApps DriveWizard to save the contents of your hard disk drive before it crashes. DriveSMART utilizes the S.M.A.R.T. technology to track the status of the computer hard disks. Its main goal is to detect and anticipate any problems that are about to occur on your hard disk, in a timely manner allowing you to save your precious data..."
