Is there anyplace to tie in for keyed power under the hood?
I know a few spots in the cab,but would prefer under the hood if possible

Yes there is a keyed power under the hood. I pulled it from there for my lift pump. just go into the fuse box. I used a fuse tap and pulled power off of there. I can get back to you and let you know what fuse I used later. I am not near my truck.
Many of them on the 99-06 fuse panel. Like John said go into the underhood fuse box. Things like radio, heater, windshield wipers, etc etc. Easy to test for with a test light, then use one of those trick little add a circuits.
I taped the wires under the fuse panel, IIRC the all pink wires are key on power, one is a heavier gauge than all the others, thats the one i used! i used it to power (engage) a relay under hood so anytime i need key on power i have it readily avaliable from the 40amp relay!
i should of said that i need a fairly nice size gauge wire as this is for powering quite a bit of stuff
I will lift the box up and check for a heavy pink wire

as mentioned about a relay -
Use one. Tap into a keyed circuit and have it trigger the relay on and have a fatty wire feeding good power to the relay. It will then kick out the fatty power to your new circuits and not draw from the initial tapped into circuit.

The wire under the box isnt real heavy, maybe 12ga IIRC but its enough to pull a relay coil in. then i fed the hot side of the relay with a 10Ga wire direct from the battary. 10ga wire and a 40 amp relay will carry quite a bit but you could always step up the wire and relay size!!
Off my relay i run my lift pump, the dual cp3 signal wire, and the flex lite fan signal wire!
