I'm working on dialing in my Lbz with 50% exergy sticks. I noticed that during free rev in neutral when pilot turns off it huffed a little white smoke then would rev to the moon. If I kept the throttle dead steady it would sound good then pilot would shut off and rattle and alternate. As an experiment I kept pilot on until 3k rpms. That smoothed things out! Then after I tapered pilot quantity and the quadrant that pilot injection pulse width is attained from (in the main pulse table on Lbz) to make the transition smoother. I am happy with the results thus far. So pilot stays active now until the 3400 rpm Column so it switches to a single injection event at around 3300 rpms and begins tapering pilot pulse off starting at 2700 rpms. What are the drawbacks of this? It seems that conventional wisdom would say turn pilot off quicker.... But I didn't have much luck and ended up with more rattle. Would I be better off puttin pilot back where it was and smoothing the pilot pulse out quicker? Anybody ever try this?

I think pilot forces the main injection to occur later. So there is a retarding effect by keeping pilot at higher RPM's therefore reducing rattle.

I see that stock Lbz/Lmm allow all 5 events according to the table maximum number of allowed injection events under the fuel pressure folder. You are correct on the effects of pilot on main timing.... Just curious how people are making the transition from pilot to no pilot smoother and not so "hard edged"
