I have a K&N 77 metal intake tube on my truck. yesterday i took it off and looked in side and seen a baffle a few inches in front of the mass air sensor looks like it was put in to block air flow going through the sensor. my question is should i cut it out and is it messing with my tuning?

.

The MAF is suppose to be calibrated for its location. Likely you will create codes for yourself, as it will read higher, and fail the comparator diagnostic.

The AME intake does not have one. AME intake is almost identical.

No maf sensor?

???

I would assume no baffle.

I have a AFE and there is no baffle. IF it's in the same proximity of the stock location (Maf location) perhaps KN feels the additional airflow will cause codes. I recall the early on KN (plastic) kits the Maf was moved way down stream and threw codes.

Well I finally did this yesterday and i must say i wish i did this a year ago.
I'm still running the same tune as i was before with miner changes to it since but after cutting the baffle out yesterday the truck burns cleaner on the top end and feels like 2-3 shift might be improving. I will need to log it and see, as well as take it to the track. all i can think is it was put in with the intention of it giving power in stock tuning?
picture two is intake with baffle in front of mass air
picture one is it cut out
picture three is just a patch
The intake is now all black i was able to peal off all the chrome revealing a nice black coating,Looks brand new.
