just changed my fuel filter and need help

So saturday i changed my filter and did all the steps and i got all the air bubbles out and she cranked up fine, well saturday night it kinda started to turn over more and more before it would fire, well my friend borrowed my truck and instead of putting more diesel in it he ran it completely out now im screwed, i prime the shit out of it and got all the air out (i think) and still takes forever to start and kinda sputters will this get better over time or do i need to do something else? please help im lost

ok well i was messing around with it and the fuel heater is leaking bubbles when i prime it, that could be the reason its not holding pressure right? so if i get a new gasket for it, it should start fine?

im just guessing you dont have a lift pump? what you need to do is prime it till all the air is out, and then pump it up till the button is really hard, have someone crank it over and while it is cranking, keep priming it. and you will need to buy a filter head rebuild kit and the oring for the heater will be in there

just bought the kit, but after i put the kit on there do you think that it will be fixed and be back to normal?
