Just became Duramax owner

Just wanted to jump on here and say hello. I just bought my first diesel and yes it is a Duramax. I used to be a GM diesel mechanic for 15 years but quit 5 years ago. I know how to fix these back stock but I do not know anything about the aftermarket items that make these trucks so versitale.

I bought a 2006 GMC SLT crew cab short bed with 100,000 miles on it. I am trying to figure out what kind of exhaust this truck has. It is pretty (very loud, wife heard it three blocks away) loud when laying into the throttle. Does anyone have a clue how I could find out. Great to be here as an owner finally.

You could try rolling under the truck and inspecting the exhaust system. The muffler should say who's exhaust, if it is a name brand. Might not have one at all if it is as loud as you say, easy to install one.

you bought the best type of duramax ....a GMC LBZ...
see if you have a catalitic converter

Welcome to the site. Most of the aftermarket exhausts on these trucks are pretty similar (usually the muffler is a media packed straight through muffler similar to the old glass packs but bigger). That is to say if it has a muffler at all. As loud as you say it is, I'm sure there isn't a cat on it anymore. Anyhow, glad you found us. :welcome8:
