Hello everyone, I was checking out my dp mag and was reading about some catastrophic engine problems. I think it was called " Uncommon but Catastrophic " on page 77. I think they were mostly fords but it stated in more than one problem " poor tuning from a programmer " What are they talking about , are they talking about Edge, Bullydog, diablo, hypertech, Stacking, etc?, or does ford have a type of efi live that they are fu*#ing up. I mean are the PPE programmers good or are they causing these problems on d-max's. I dont rod the Sh*t out of my truck all the time but I have fun with it . Or is this a case of sometimes you get a good one and sometimes you get a bad one? I dont Know . This article kinda spooked me.

well if it was fords than it wasnt efi. having said that poor tuning and efi is not hard to do. there is one table in particular if maxxed out trying to make power will over rev the engine in park as soon as you turn the key to start it. most of the over the counter stuff is pretty well tested and works well for its intended purpose. but stacks of tuners/programers all bets off. some work, but they werent designed to work together.

IMO stacking progammers on a Duramax is about the dumbest thing to do. With EFI Live you have the ability to make a tune that does anything a module and/or programmer can do - and then some. You will actually know what your engine is doing and what final timing, fueling, defuel, ect you are running.

I would say that most of the stuff on the market is pretty safe by itself. Your PPE is fine.

Fords have SCT but AFAIK only dealers/tuners can actually write tunes with it, so there aren't many guys writing their own tunes.

Dodges don't have truely custom tuning available and are basically forced to stack.

I guess to clarify the question. What are they talking about " poor tuning from a programmer " were these guy's just roding the hell out of they're trucks or are some tuners ( programmers ) bad? Or are these guys talking about stacking and just not spitting it out. P.S. the only time I ever thought of stacking it would have been a duramaximizer with the xcelerator programmer but I'm not going to do it. Once and if I get my tranz built or buy a good one I'm going to go EFI live probably.

There have been people that have blown engines with ppe tuners, but I think they just mean bad tunes/poor quality. Tunes written by people who don't know there stuff or off brand tunes/tuners that haven't been tested.

if you put the ppe hot 2 on full bore and you drove like an ass alot i thing you'd have some issues in short order. especially if you have no gauges to look at egt and boost. with that said the ppe tune is very well built but alot of power.

one thing to always remember is your wallet dictates how much power you can have. if you can pay to fix it if it breaks than you can be a little harder on things;)

FYI there is some custom tuning available for Fords. It is called Sniper, and imo is a piece of crap. buddy of mine with a 7.3 has got it. He has no idea what half the tables even mean and it doesn't have graphs or anything for visual refrence.
