Just bought an 06 tdi. Had 153,000 on the odometer with the timing belt, water pump and get being replaced 20,000 miles ago. It’s a 5spd manual. Anything else I should keep my eye on. And what are you guys doing for upgrades.

Sounds alot like my first car, alotta good times were had in that ole girl. Beat the shit out of racing my buddies and never hesitating to take her wherever the hell i wanted. Egr delete is easy on em and a dowpipe really makes her sound decent. Ended up selling it to get a truck and sold it for the same price i bought it for.

This is a work car for me. I work all over the country and I drive to most places. Bought my 16 brand new and put 50,000 miles on it this year and I’m not to excited about it.

I picked one up not to long ago also. Had an 09 tdi before that

As mentioned above, inspect the cam: http://www.myturbodiesel.com/wiki/camshaft-lobe-wear-inspection-and-replacement-on-tdi-pd-engine/

Take the lower intercooler hose off and see if you have any oil build up. If so, clean it out/drain it

Take the intake valve (between the intake hose on the left and intake manifold) and inspect the carbon build up in the intake manifold.

Replace the timing belt, tensioner, water pump and idler roller if you don't have proof of the last time it was done. This is an interference engine so a failed timing belt means big $$$

Get yourself a genuine VCDS cable. You can't do much to the car without one. Save you many trips to the dealer

With vcds, set your cam timing to "0" or up to "+1" until the engine idle smoothly when cold. Even if it idles smoothly double check the torsion value (cam timing) is within spec

Oh, and get yourself a set of triple square bits if you don't already have any. They are used everywhere on these vehicles

I'd love to have a tdi Jetta to drive to work. They are high as hell around here though
