Ive been thinking would there be any gains? Theres a place in maryland that coats just about anything. Would it be worth coating the manifolds, up pipes, pedestal, and down pipe or would i just be wasting time. I called them and they said they could coat everything for me inside and out. what you all think?

it would have to help with underhood temps, and probably help spooling a bit , with holding more heat in the exhaust system , just dont know if the gains would justify the cost ?

im not sure...i also dont know if coating the stock up pipes would be worth it or not? i have seen gains by coating headers on gas motors. nothing huge but i saw a 10 HP gain.

Good point...What do they want to charge to coat everything?...If it's reasonable, I say do it...Usually parts will last longer and obviously look better (underhood bling)...

X2

I had some SBC headers coated by Jet Hot in 2000 and the coating started to pit 8 months later. They were recoated for free (I paid shipping) and the recoating lasted 6 months before pitting happened again.

The funny thing is I had a new crossover pipe coated at the same time and forgot to send them one of the couplers. I realized my mistake too late so I just cleaned the coupler and painted it with high temp silver manifold paint. That coupler looked great the day I sold it, but the Jet Hot coated crossover pipe (which the coupler was attached too) looked terrible and they did not see salt/snow.

They may have changed their formula over the years, but I am very hesitant to try them again.

Just my experience though......your results may vary :D

Edit: I just looked at the pictures Kat was referring to, and I will say that there are "different" types of high temp coatings out there and many companies offer several different styles/colors. It seems the brighter, silvery, or shiny colors are less durable. The flat colors (like what the up-pipes in the pictures have) are much more durable FWIW.

I was looking for form over function and went shiny :) so that has to be considered as well.....

I have two types of coatings on my F7 snowmobile, one's a black coating, inside and out on a y-pipe manifold done by D&D performance in NY and one is the Shiny inside and out on their single pipe and can done by Speedwerx. the black started flaking after a 6 hr ride and is now rusting, the shiny i dont think will ever lose its luster, they recommend washing it down with soapy water and not allowing chemicals to touch it which i have followed so far.
