Hey, thought i'd say, the truck finally runs!! :D:D We transported it to Mike L.'s shop, and Dmitri came down and helped mike. The motor runs perfect,:thumb: almost no new motor leaks, just one small fuel leak and a small coolant leak. It drove home under its own power finally. The truck feels faster than I ever remember, but the transmission is holding it back. From what it sounds like, some of the hard parts in the tranny are damaged, but it drives just fine as long as you don't get on it too hard. I get my learners permit in less than 2 months, so i'll be driving it a lot soon. I'm hoping this summer we can hit 11s. Thanks everybody that helped us out

Glad it's back running again. I was curious how it was going...As I ran across your old thread the other day.

I was just reading about your rebuild showcased by Dimitri in one of the diesel mags the other day and was wondering how things were coming.

Good to hear it's back on the road!!:thumb:

It was nice having Dimitri give me a hand finishing the engine stuff. Engine fired after about 10 pumps on the bleeder. Engine ran very smooth from the get go which set Dimitri off on his chicken strut :chicken2: stating to the world " That's right, I'm bad ":hug::D Love ya Dimitri.:thumb:
I never drove the truck but from reports the PPE trans may have fought one too many wars over the years and probably needs a refresh.

By the way, Dmitri and I tore into the old motor finally, and it turns out, the rods were not bent at all and the pistons were still good, and it looks like the crank, other than one of the bearings being scratched up, is still good.

So what part(s) did fail?
