Is this a fire hazard?

We are living in the Pacific Northwest. There are a lot of F'n Chipmunks around our house. (Looks like the o'll 22 will get a work out this summer) I went to check on a leak that I found, and found this. (see pic) It is on the back firewall behind the turbo.

Will the exposed insulation catch on fire, melt, or do nothing?

Any suggestions on a quick fix if it is a hazard.

Thanks
jc

I heat my house with Coal, and there is insulation around the flu pipe that hasn't even melted....so I'd say don't worry about it either.

i've seen very few fires from igniting insulation.... usually you need something that burns hot for quite a while to "ignite" it or direct flame contact. and even then it just melts smolders and smokes, and really friggin hurts when it falls down your gloves and sticks to your hands! :baby:

so yes you are ok. some guys do not run insulation on their firewall at all.

At the time of this here post, 177 of you remember this thread.

Got an update. While removing the turbo I noticed something. See pic. I held the camera agenst the firewall and pointed it forward. It is located just under the Y bridge of the intake. The rat bastards built a nest there. It did get me thinking (what else do I got to do when working on the truck by myself) perhaps they are trying to improve the performance of my truck by insolating the Y bridge from the heat of the engine.

I have found hickory nuts in my air filterbox, along with where mice had chewed on the filter. a friend who has a 2004 D-Max had mice under the fuse box chewing on wires, at the coffee shop one morning we noticed smoke coming from under the hood, it was over 3 thousand in damage to the wiring harness. I know mice will cause problems, not sure about the chipmunks.

....ha...smoldering blown insulation is a bitch!! I had a run it with that last week, can't do anything about it but keep on pulling though!

The insullation on my fire has looked exactly like the first picture posted as long as I can remember. I was kind of worried about it when I first saw it but it hasn't burned yet:eek:

Use your imagination for this. Picture a small innocent little squirrel nibbiling on a caddy fleetwood with an A6 compressor-3.75lbs of R12 when he finally punches thru the rubber hose. He probably expanded to 10x his size and froze instantly:D bet he won't do that again;) True Story, lots of squirrel issues around these parts.
Had one become a jumper between 2 power grinds and shut down power to about 1000+ homes while they pried his fried ass off the grid.
