I'm driving a 03 crew cab dually with 80k on the clock. The tranny was replaced at 20k (i dont know why didnt own it then, its a gm reman) When I first bought it tranny temps never went over 150. Over the last 3 months or so it keeps running hotter and hotter. First it was 150 ish then 165 ish last weekend I went camping and it is a bit hilly where we were but I still saw 200! Without a trailer. Just me and a buddy with maybe 500lbs of crap in the back. I though it was too much tune(90-100hp) so I backed it off. Didnt solve the problem. Now I'm running an econ. tune and saw 195 ish in the cool of the morning (70) on a 20 min trip. Just checked fluid it looks brand new. The spin on is 2 weeks old. (from gm)

What do you guys think? Is something going on here or am I just being a :baby:
Thanks for reading. sorry so long.

If your running without the towhaul engaged that also will create higher temps. For the most part once the truck is at operating temp with heat soak the transmission will run close to engine temp.

Just FYI if your fluid is at proper level and you don't see excessive TC slip.

Ok I checked the level and its at the top of the "hot" cross hatch. Now I've been told as of late that is too high. It should be in the middle of the cross hatch. I will drain some out tomorrow in hopes of this being the problem. Although I respectfully doubt it because the fluid level was the same before when it was running cooler. I talked with Johnboy and he is going to check out the converter in two weeks (hes a very busy boy) Are there any other thoughts on this temp thing anyone wants to throw out??

try cleaning your tranny cooler maybe its full of bugs?

edit: just thinking maybe its possible something made its way up to the tranny cooler and is restricting the flow?

yeah I wondered about the cooler. I did check for outside restriction (bugs, dirt) but its all clean. I guess I could pull the cooler off and check it out for internal plugs. I don't know what would have plugged it though. :dontknow: Freaking crap always happens when you dont want it to. I have 3 or 4 pulls I want to make a showing at and now this has me wondering. Thanks for the help though guys!

How long have you owned the truck? What are the outside temps where you are? Have you driven it for extended periods of time in the same outside temperatures before?

This is my 2nd summer with the truck. It has been 80+ and humid lately. I would think that higher temps would be normal except that my buddy has a truck in the same weather and never sees temps like i do. even pulling a trailer. Thanks for throwing out ideas.
