Generally on a stock bottom end/cp3 it isn't needed. If I was going to upgrade to dual cp3's and a built motor I would get one.

Interesting. I had mine at 80psi many times (leak testing) and 60-62 psi under turbo pressure. So far so good. Maybe pushing my luck?

My stocker never failed due to pressure , i upgraded it anyway :D I did several mods at the same time so i cant say what the exact gains were if any but i can say boost dropped 2 psi even with extra fuel added so i would have to say it removed some restriction in the system .

You probably have the good metal tanks on yours too. Mine has the crappy plastic tank on the cold side.

I have a stock LLY one with metal end tanks and saw a max of 62 PSI when I first finished the engine build. My first time to the track it was around 60 at WOT in 4WD, next time at the track it was in the mid to lower 50s and I burned up a bearing in my turbo. I leak checked it with a 3" plug with a valve and an air fitting and with the valve wide open it would only hold 20 PSI before the intercooler was leaking as much as the air compressor could flow to it. Took it out and tig welded the corner that was obviously leaking closed and when I pressure check it found a couple more leaks, tig welded those and pressure checked it and found about 10 more leaks - pretty much where each tube in the core meets the end tanks it is leaking. I have a BD intercooler arriving tomorrow and will let everyone know how it does.
