Got a quick question for guys that have had this same issue with boost leaks after installeing an egr delete kit. On the intercooler theres the fitting that is held on with just that snap ring on the passenger side and im getting some boost leak from there, how do you fix that?

what are these connections good for? I have a really hard time believing the stock y bridge wont hold full boost, but that joint will???

Alright so as this may not be a intercooler issue im not putting anything out there, a little history of the past month, so sent the turbo off due to excessive blow by out into the intercooler pipe, mind you not even 300 miles on it, got it back a week ago, turbos on completely rebuilt (thanks to II) well got that all buttoned back up and my banks intercooler pipe on and which i put another boost gauge to see before and after turbo. Well took it out tonight and still the truck runs like crap, hammer on it and just massive smoke blows out till the turbo kicks in and finally takes off, now im only seeing 30 directly after turbo and 20 after intercooler at the same time????
Its just weird the week after i brought it home from bobo for tuning it ran freaking awesome then all of a suden after a bridge issue things have been down hill. Real laggy and lots and lots of stupid smoke. Anyone have any ideas? and why am i only seeing 30 lbs of boost directly outta the turbo??/ awfuly low.

I would pressure check the air system. you can build some plugs out of pvc pipe, just keep the pressure moderate 10-15 psi (kind of chicken to blow the pvc up or out of the boot). Put one plug in the intercooler pipe out of the turbo and the other into the y-bridge intercooler pipe. Not sure how big a bitch that will be on a LBZ???
Anywho it sounds like a pretty big leak. Should be easy to find.

Albert could the intercooler be restricting? it seams hard to blow thru and after a couple days of the turbo being on it started sucking the stock airfilter into the tube.

There will be a pressure drop post IC but not 33% like you are seeing. More like 7-12%.

The heavy smoke makes me think its on the exhaust side of the turbo. Reason being that it would have to be a serious boost leak to act like this. Any chance a gasket was not lined up properly on the up pipes? Maybe on the inlet ports of the pedestal? How did you cap the egr arm on the pass up pipe?

I have seen 2 trucks with small exhaust leaks pre turbo behave in the same manner as you have described. One had a bad manifold gasket, the other was egr related.

as far as the gaskets go they were brand new when the turbo went on and the trans was out at the time so the first time i know they were alright, this time with having to lean over the motor it might be a different story, so ill check them again, and ive got another stock intercooler being sent to me so hopefully in a week or so thatll be in and well try it again, thanks for all the input guys

any update on this? and a 5 psi restriction on the Intercooler is Gigantic! if that's the real spec that's really restrictive IC. we run 7kpa, or 1psi at work granted their a little larger aftercoolers, but still...

Just a number that was sticking in my head, may or may not be accurate... Agreed, that is very restrictive, however it's a place to start.

oh yeah it definitely sounds like the cooler is at fault. we get cracked coolers all the time, and they're hard to find, plugging them and seeing if they hold pressure isn't the best check either.

A pressure drop test is really the best approach. That'll tell you if you have a leak and how bad your restriction is.
