Intercooler pressure drop

I'm considering buying a new intercooler either BD or one from Scott at SDP.

Has any one experienced any of the symptoms listed below after installing a larger intercooler? If so what mfg cooler and HP are you running?

***More important than intercooler core design, the intercooler and flow area must be matched to the specific cooling job. It is not simply a case of bigger is better. An overly large core will result in excessive pressure drop, which results in sluggish boost response.***

Its BS, the cooler the air gets the more pressure drop it will have. Simple physics, a too large of core may slow boost response because the turbo has more room to fill, like large IC piping. Dont listen to what BD says, an intercooler with more cooling capacity will have more pressure drop than stock. $.02

but then again what are you using it for because i know alot of people that are spending big money for them and sled pull... an in sled pulling you dont move fast enuf for a lager cooler to even do anything

I don't pull but it seems like since you are moving slowly in sled pulling the more surface area you have the more of that slow moving air you could take advantage of. The deeper fins also should help because even though the quantity of air flowing through it is limited the fins have more area to dissipate heat.

Lemme know if I'm way off base here

Well i didnt go with the dts cooler:tease: it wasnt cuz its a poor product, its kinda in the back of my mid as shoulda, but didnt. I got the BD. It fit great, but i wound up removing the risers for the a/c heat exchanger, and setting posts on the support for it to sit on. The pressure drop issue i cant comment on, cuz at the same exact time i put performance manifolds and up pipes on to help combat this problem, also at this time, my truck decided not to run right and the trans needed to be installed, so i sent it to the shop and have not gotten it back yet, so i havent even made a test run yet. I bought and installed the products over 3 months ago, paid for the trans and install and still have not driven the damn thing. Were talkin like 10g and i havent driven it in over three months, and i had to watch it be towed away, the whole thing is making me sick.More because the shop is now at a loss, wants to tear int the head tomorrow, and go from there, i just dont want to spend that money right now, just want this to be over and drive my damn truck again

If there is going to be pressure drop it really should be labeled as turbo lag? As the turbo will still develop the same ammount of boost pressure, i think on a vgt your tuner should be able to ramp up the vanes faster, or compensate some how at tip throttle for a larger intercooler? Not sure? But there is not going to be less boost. The greatest benifit would be seen by guys who tow alot or are constantly making the turbo work for long periods of time, like pulling a grade with a heavy trailer.

I installed the DTS unit in my stock fueled LB7 a couple of weeks ago. No loss in drivability whatsoever. Charge air temps are way down and EGT's are better as well. Can't wait to tow with it...
