Would it be a bad idea to use a hose?

I blew mine off a couple times tonight and beat the crap out of the pipe
I might just go to a exhaust shop and see if they can bed some new 3" for me,But i thought a hose might be nice with threaded ends instead of the clamps

Are you talking about replacing the silicone with hose or the hole pipe?

replace the entire pipe with a single hose,Never seen that before so there must be a reason?
I can get hose that can handle heat, oil and high pressure.

I am developing a 3.5" tube.

What kind of air number are you running Simon?

66lb/min judging from the logs or 55 to 60 lbs from the boost gauge

Simon I would think that unless it were extremely rigid you'd get alot of turbulence moving air through a hose. But the bends would be wonderfully smooth

If you can get the hose that is smooth on the inside and take the heat and press then I don't see why not.

Are you going to throw some Fig 206 union's on it Simon?:joker:

Make a custom pipe so that the only rubber boots you have are straight pieces. You could also weld a bung to the new pipe and to the turbo and intercooler and wire or bolt a strap to it. My intercooler piping is all aluminum and it has a strap for each piece to keep it in place.

Do you have a bead on the end of the tubes? That should be all that is necessary.

But that is very innovative, nice work.

Yes, a bung is on each end of the piping and on the turbo/intercooler where it connects and then a strap is bolted to each side.

 You blew the I/C pipe off, with boost straps on it!!!! If so, Yikes!

If the hose goes right there in the picture, radiant heat might be an issue, no?

I think you misunserstood my question. Were the tubes manufactured with a raised bead all the way around the circumference, to help the T-bolt clamp hold the boot?

Sorry, I type faster than I read sometimes. Yes, they all have a bead on the end of them to help the boot hold.

I have never had problems blowing boost hoses off unless there are contaminates like oil or something on the surfaces , I clean all my fitting and boots with grease/wax remover before they get re-installed and mine have held fine with just clamps , but I like the idea of the straps because in competition there are no secound chances and it would be cheap insurance .especially for the sled pullers because alot of time you only get 1 pull whether you screw up or not .

The reasons they blew off is simply because they where sketchy to begin with its a fair size turbo with a riser under the turbo making it slighly higher

the pipe coming off the turbo is difficult to keep straight with out something custom IMO

Mandrel bent lines and a added lil bonus are going to be done this winter:D

For now Ted had his friend bend some lines and they fit nicely

KB you think its better to run a higher volume line to the intercooler only?

Got Honey?
The hot side has the most problems with friction and loss. Once cooled by the CAC, it slows way down, and losses get smaller.

I did some modeling of this once upon a time, and came to the conclusion that, for most, the cold side did little when upsized. But if you run over 75-80 lb/min, then I would go to a 3.5", and 3.0" arrangement.

Hope that helps.

Found some hose to run today but its damn expensive 70.00/ft

Apperently they use this in industial applications. Im not going to try it since im swapping to a W/A intercooler and wont need long pipes anymore

Its a smooth braid on the outside and SS flex pipe on the inside. the ends are whatever you want from flanged to a nipple
