I am planning on putting a build motor in my truck in the very near future. :D Just wondering when should the input and output shafts be upgraded to billet input and output shafts? There are probally no magical numbers, but just checking.

It all depends on the budget , if you have the money its decent insurance to replace the output , the input i would wait untill it breaks , i didnt have the coin so i am still on stock shafts , we will see how long they last so far they are hanging in there ?

^^^yep.

It really depends on teh truck setup, what its used for and how its driven. There is no set time when the shaft will break, its just under certain circustances that they say "I give up".

When they do break its a clean brake and rearely hurts anything else, so if you really dont have the coin now you dont have to do it, but the day may come when one of them will break and youll have to pull the trans and swap shafts.

As soon as I get my truck back Im driving it with a stock tune in it until I can get it down to Mikes to get input/output.... I dont like being stranded 4 hours from my trans guy

Pansy... I'm glad Mike talked me out of shafts would have been 1300$ I didn't need to spend.... I would still take advantage of our good air at Sac before it never goes back that way. Trent is making more power than most and is on stock shafts that is enough for me right there

Thanks for the input guys. I am planning on taking the transmission apart after the engine is pulled to see how the clutches are holding up. Since the tranmission will be a part I thought it might be a good time to replace the parts that will break, but I might just wait now.

Trent is also a lot lighter than most people which plays a pretty big part in shafts breaking...correct me if im wrong;)

A crew cab running 10s is different than your ex cab runnin 12s Nick :baby::thumb::joker:

Its a crew cab chief... and just because I'm running 12.1's doesn't mean I'm making hp to only run 12.1's... it has a lot to do with truck prep as well. Casper ran forever with stock shafts...

Think weight of the truck plays a role as well. Also tuning. OOPS that was already posted, that's what you get when you don't read a thread to the end. Tuning for less torque down low is very helpful.
