I'm doing a transplant of an 01 DMAX/ALLI into my 95 SUBURBAN. While the engine is out I'm doing the head gaskets because the passenger side in the rear had a slight leak in between the block and the gasket. When I tore it down all the injector tips and cylinders were uniform except for #2 which was rather wet and clean on half the piston dome. I checked the balance rates before I pulled it and all were within+/-.4 except 2(-2.43) and 5(2.41). the engine also had a knock in it occasionally and a BAD lope idle. I have a FPR coming for the lope idle as it was fluctuating about 1700 PSI at idle. My main question though is in regards to the injectors. Should I replace them or not? They were done at 30K under warranty, and the truck had 162K when I pulled it down. I already have the heads off and tore down, and figure now is the time to replace the injectors. My obstacle right now is money is running short currently as I have had NO work in almost 3 months.

I pulled the injector nozzles off and cleaned them all and re-assemblked them. #2 was DEFINATELY leaking down as even the pressure from a spray can of carb cleaner blead right past the seat when I checked it, and #5 seemed MUCH looser than the rest when I pulled the needle valve out of the nozzle in it. After soaking them all in cleaner and re-assembling though none were leaking and all have a good spray pattern with a fine mist when I checked them with spray carb cleaner. I found a shop to test them for 3-4 bucks each, or PENSAOLA has theres for $149 each. Should I have them tested or just replace them due to milage?

I would go ahead and have them tested, then go from there. Just make sure the shop testing them can run them up to the right operating pressure instead of only 5K...

I called several shops and they said they could only pop test em. All of the local diesel shops just wanted to sell me remans instead of working on mine. Wish I could find a good price on stock nozzles and just replace them. All of the injectors still worked, but #2 was definately dribbling.
