My truck has around 190k on it and it smokes awfully bad, so I'm thinkin about doing the injectors. I know my way around a wrench fairly well, but I was wondering if anyone had any links/pictures/videos of the complete tear down? I understand it would be hard to video what is very commonly a 12 hour job, but if anyone has any info that would help me out it would be greatly appreciated!

Probably something on you tube.

Key is to be clean and go slow. I always steam clean the engine before any major repair work, obviously be mindful of the ficm and other electrical components. Take lots of pics as you take it apart. Use a good 5mm allen in the valve/rocker cover bolts, they strip easily if not fully engaged. I would re-seal the injector cups, some say you don't have to but I'm not going back to square one for a couple hours extra work. I align all the return lines by lightly tightening everything before final tq. This includes the injector hold downs, that way the lines will stay square to the injector body while you final tq everything. Also use new return seals and be very careful of the return line bolts.

Who's injectors are going to use?

Burn down, I just wanna take a second to applaud you for that post. A calm nice response to an honest question tho it’s been asked to oblivion. It’s refreshing. Sorry for the rant has just been a beyond sh*tty week

Anyways exactly what he said. I’d recommend new or at least cleaned high pressure lines and DEFINITELY do the cups. Made that mistake once and never again. Be very careful with the return line bolts. Very easy to strip especially when breaking loose or torquing. If you wanna spend a little more for reassurance, merchant auto sells HD return line bolts that are amazing

As far as where to get the stuff, Brent and Laura at lincoln diesel have some of the best customer service and pricing out there

What they said. If I’m spending the money and time to did into injectors I’m replacing the high pressure lines as well.

Here is a link to the write up I did way back in the day. The next time mine needed injectors, I pulled the LB7 and put a LBZ in its place.
