Depends on the pump and the model year of truck. I haven't heard of anyone damaging the pump though. Some people with the mechanical lift pump (MITUSA) push 60+ psi into the inlet of the CP3 with no ill effects. The issue is with the FPR, which doesn't like the pressure so obviously the mechanical pumps are plumbed in after the FPR.
If I'm not mistaken, the LLY and maybe LBZ also, don't like to see more than 10-12 psi at the FPR. The LB7 can take 15 or so psi before it starts to act up.
If your pump is close to these pressures, run an aux. fuel filter between the pump and the FPR and that'll knock the pressure down enough to hopefully keep you problem free. If its a high pressure pump, get another one. j/k You will have to put an inline pressure regulator if the pressures are higher than the above stated ones.
Some pumps that are used are some Carters, Holley Blue and Black, Edelbrock 1792, Holley new HP150??, Kennedy dual pump setup, TTS dual pump setup, Super Diesel lift pump and filter, etc.
Good luck. I'm still deciding which route I wanna go with this also.
