Well popped out 4 of my injectors tonight, looks like wear marks on the bottom edge of the hold down.

I don't remember that before?? Maybe I'm just forgetting what they look like.

Here is some pics, hopefully they show up big enough on here. If they are super big, sorry. Make it easier to see what I'm talking about.

Am I going crazy or do I need to replace them?

Any help would appreciated.

John

You're good, I always torque them at 40ft lbs.. I think the book calls for 37 or 38...
But make sure your cups are seated good that could be what u are seeing check the cup in the hole...?

the shiny marks the ones you are concerned about?

yeah it looks like a real fine file was taken to them. None of the 4 are the same, some worse than others.

Yeah book is 37, I had just redone the cups 5-10k ago. Paranoia I guess.

The last head job I did I had a cup that almost seated but lacked just alittle, so I had to get ALL the old loctite off the area wear they seat, its in the bottom of the hole hard to get to but can be done,, just make double sure that they are all seated just a speck of old loctite can keep them from seating...Good Luck...:thumb:

I am 99.9999% sure they are fully seated. I am not burning any coolant, and using a bore scope, pistons look fine with no coolant or wetness.

i cleaned the shit out of the head with a wire pipe cleaners and likewise on the cups.

I just have a hard time believing that this is normal, not saying that anyone is lieing or anything at all, just doesnt seem right. the hold downs have a machined out edge, and for the edges to look like a file was taken to them....

Maybe I'm wrong, hopefully I am lol, but I seen it as soon as I pulled one.

Will be pulling the drivers side tonight, we shall what they look like.

Like a plumbers steel wire pipe brush? Wouldn't that would score the aluminum?

It was brass wires.

no I've been in it before, I was the first one to pop it open as well.

Well i plan to get a new one either way...but finding out the cause will be alot more benefitual than opening the motor every 10k miles to replace them all again, if something is off.

Its always the small shit that is a pain in the ass.

Convert to LBZ heads and injectors if it's open anyway. Sell those LB7 parts there is alot of talk here lately of this to fix that LB7 mess. Check into it and then just drive the bitch.

LBZS do have hold downs. They just don't have the chance of leaking coolant because of an injector cup issue. Are the wear plates in the heads wear the hold down rest at the side away from the injector? It is a small round Stella insert about 5/8" across.
