Ok, so its obvious that my injector 8 is going out. I keep having cylinder 8 misfires at idle (P0308). Last time I went to Harley to get a reflash he noticed that injector 8 was requiring more fuel than the others. This was before I would have the check engine light on. It has only progressed since then. So I was thinkin about just changing that one injector instead of all 8 (because lack of money/job). Im afraid of dong myself because lets admit I'm no mechanic and I afraid of messing up the injector cup and/or getting the injector dirty while installing.

My point is, whats a good price for having someone changing the injector for me? Cause I really don't feel like being screwed over on price. So what kind of numbers am I looking for?

I would do a compression check before you go swapping injectors.

If you guy a compression tester, you can do it yourself. It's a pretty simple procedure. You do it through the glow plug holes. Otherwise, any diesel shop that works on Duramaxes should have the necessary tools.

What else would cause a P0308 code? I really dont have the money for 8 injectors. Should I get a injector balance check, and see if its jus one injector and jus replace that injector?

Low compression on the number 8 cylinder could cause it. That's why I suggested you check it. Could go either way, but a compression check is cheap and easy to do (relatively). I would hate to see you change an injector and end up with the same problem still. A positive balance rate is either a lack of fuel or a lack of compression to burn the fuel. Typically when injectors go they dribble fuel and have a negative balance rate, but they can go the other way too.

any reason why their would be a low compression in cylinder 8? jw

If I may add I agree with the compression test, I've have recently aquired the knowledge that just because the balance rates are off doesn't mean an injector is bad, I burn a piston an the truck ran really bad, I did an balance test it showed the #7 was over fueling alot, at first glance the injector is bad but I did a compression test an no compression injector was good, I don't think u have this issue I was just trying to explain how balance rates can be miss reading, low compression, could be from a head gasket leaking a valve stuck, cracked ring, cracked piston, Like Josh said its best to have a compression test done it will tell u what condition the engine is, hopefully it is just the injector, I wish u the best of luck,,,,,, Sry Josh, I didn't mean to interupt u.:)

More than likely YES, but theirs always a chance it could be something, also doing a compression always make me feel better about the condiion of the upper internals..

Goto fawkin Harbor Freight and buy a diesel compression tester and do it your damed self :thumb: On another note, Before you go buying injectors try running a LOT of DieselKleen in it. You can buy a gallon of it from Wally world (wall mart) and run the whole thing through it. I did and My balance rates turned to GOLD. It used to run rough intill it warmed up and then smoothed out. I tryed all kinds of shit and the thing that worked was DeiselKleen in the silver bottle :D now my return rates are also some of the best theyd ever seen at my old stealer I used to work at
