hey y'all, found the crankcase full of fuel this afternoon.... :(

I am going to pop the valve covers and run the truck to see if i can see any leaks, heard it works. thought about dying the fuel in the filter so try to locate the leak, does anybody have suggestions on what to use?

Any 'dont do this.....' or 'this will help it go smoother' suggestions?

Thanks

no i havent checked balance rates yet, just saw the puddle and did a sniff check. i was on my way out the door for work when i saw the situation. i guess that would be a good clue huh? im an idiot some times...... :D

mytmousemalibu, i guess the 'search' function would have helped too? i'll give it a read and go from there.

Thanks.

If you killed more than a couple injectors word to the wise. Replace the FICM when you replace the next ones. New return lines and seals are a good idea.

IIRC there is a theory that a bad FICM is what makes some injectors go bad and why some trucks go through 5 sets of them  makes sence to me:baby:

^^^^^^ Ding Ding Ding. We have a winner!

It is my beleif that is your wiping out injectors on a steady pace something else is wrong. Something is killing them. It is not filtration. That has been beat to death. Stock trucks kill them, modded trucks kill them, but then there are guys like me that run stupid big pulse widths and have never had issues. The only thing left that makes sense is the FICM is burning them up. To back this thought remeber GM went to a lower voltage injector and FICM on the LLY.;)

JOHNBOY.... All of mine that failed have been due to high psi fuel circut leaks into the oil

Still need an FICM or is this more for trucks seein injectors hang open/shut ?

hmm, thats interesting. Chevy changed my FICM after my last round of cracked body injectors.

I think mine may be easier than an injector luckily. the oil level was rather normal, yet smelled like fuel, and i have fuel leaking out of the valve cover from the top of a connector tube. im still going to pull the valve cover to be safe, but i think my fix is closer than i originally expected. :nanawrench:

i am sorry but i completely disagree witht he FICM "causing" them to go bad...

I pull injectors weekly... They are either cracked or they are packed full of rust and other contaminants. Voltage is an issue but to an extent.

Don't waste your money on an FICM - get the injectors replaced and move along....

that's one thing i noticed right off the bat was that the connector tube was rusted where it hits the fuel rail and the injector itseld

i dont think there is any good way to prevent it, or even to check it out. you'ld have to take the connector tubes off the motor just to look at them, and that in it self is kind of a pita.
