Evening everyone! :D

I am currently doing headgaskets on my 2001 lb7 and I have hit a small bump in the whole project, I'm trying to reinstall the Injector cups properly and I need some help. My questions are what type of loctite should I be Using?(Red or Green if red the high temp?) and also where do I apply the loctite on the cup?(The small Tip and where it flares? or by the new o-rings? both?).

Your input would be greatly appreciated!

P.s. the heads are on the truck and I have gotten new o-rings

Red loc tite for sure i prefer the gel as it stays in place

high temp is good also

put it on the flare and just above the tip

leave it set over night with the inj installed before fireing up with coolant so your sure the loc tite is set up

also make sure the cup are not cracked or damaged and the heads are clean and free off the old loc tite

Red, high temp will work. GM says to put loctite on the small tip and the flare. I personally put on the o-rings also. I figure the more surface area that is loctited the harder it is for the cups to lift.

Here's a pic hope it help, I like to put Red loctite, gel is the best, but I didn't have any when I took this pic, I also like to put alittle oil on the orings to help the sleeve to slide in the port. Oh the person in the pic is my little 11yr old daughter, I took some pics of her helping me put an engine back together,. Hope this helps, good luck, If u need anything else if I can help I will.

Thanks for the replies guys! I'll go get some gel tonight and get those things in. Whats the best/safest way to get them back in? could I get away with a socket of similar diameter and tap them in?

Any other advice would be great and thanks again all!

you could do it with a socket just make sure you get it seated in all the way and the socket is loose enough that it wont pull the cup loose again

x3 on using the red gel loctite.

I used a 3/8" extension to install the cups, with the large end in the cup. Take a mallet and gently tap the cup into place. The top of the cup will be flush with the rest of the head when its seated. The cup tip will be just sunk below the deck surface, too.

I dont know about red loctite on the orings...I just used dielectric grease. The injector holddown holds the cup in place, too.
