Injector bolts disaster

I tried to removed the injector bolts and 4 out 0f 5 have broken no matter if a rock or left them 3 days soaking with PB they are breaking very easy. The passenger side lower valve cover also stuck where the bolts broke. I live in the rust belt and these bolts are very rusted the driver side injector lines had to be cut to remove otherwise not budging, so frustrating.



Any advice on removing the studs and the lower valve cover would be appreciated. At this point I'm looking at removing the motor to get better access.


Doing a HG job on the motor due to failure.



Truck has 260k any advice on replacing any other components while the engine is out?

Water pump and thermostats, serpentine belt, idlers, tensioner, flush the heater core, clean cooling stack, clean residual oil from inside of intercooler

I had the same issue on a junk engine I was tearing down. I ended up taking a cutting wheel on my grinder and slicing the lower valve cover in front of each injector bolt. I then split the valve cover by hammering a chisel in the cuts I just made. The valve cover then slid up over the broken injector bolts. Once the cover was removed all bolts screwed out of the head with vice grips.

Damn! that's harsh, I hope to save the valve cover once the engine is out will see, cross my fingers for now.

This is one benefit the LB7's have, there injector hold down bolt is under the valve cover soaked in oil.

I've had good luck with smacking the head of the hold down bolt with a hammer and punch a few times before trying to loosen bolt.

Instead of pulling the motor, I would remove the hood, fenders, and front tires. You get a lot of access, and in my opinion would be less work.


Good luck on the bolts.

You might be right there, still battling the last two passenger side tranny bolts that are behind the tranny dipstick. PITA job, there should be a bulletin re HG's
