Hi, new here, wondering if you can start a 2002 without the tranny being hooked up to the motor or does the starter hook to the tranny and not the block. This is my first Duramax and need a new motor for it and found one without trans hooked up. Any info is appreciated.

Starter is attached to engine block per say. You can start the truck but don't rev it up excessively because the engine has no load on it and will free rev very quickly
