Since Woodburn I am hooked on drag racing I have this 72 Chevy cab and chassis and I think it's time to pull her out of the weeds and make something out of her.
I am thinking big tire 2whd.

What you see on the hood is fir needles and very minor rust the is actually a very straight truck with only 97,000 original miles been in my family since new.

LS Swap with a single turbo!

Not that I can afford it but I really want a D-Max in it. The interior is like new and it has the rare bucket seat option so I will most likely be selling that and the front end as I plan on a lift off fiberglass front... The only thing I will be using is the cab, it's a 1ton duely cab and chassis so I need box skins... I plan on an Alston or Morrison chassis....
I am wondering what to do for transmission have been thinking Lenco but it is just a thought...

I'd put in it whatever it is that Brett has (TH400 with a fancy lockup converter) or try your hand with a 4L80/85???

I am going to try my luck with the 4L80e. It's like 3500 to get all the fancy billet doodads that are claimed to be good for 1500-2000HP. However with input from people like Josh Harris and John Stealth hopefully the 4L80e can be turned into a workable transmission for diesel swaps.

I'm in the same boat. I plan to swap my lly into the k5 but I don't want to use the zf or Allison. I don't care about big power in that or having o.d. It's just a weekend trail/mud toy. I've been leaning toward a beefed up th400. But I may bolt it to the 700r4 just to see how long it'll live.

What does one do for a flex-plate when bolting a 4l80 or an old mechanical trans to a Duramax? Use one from a van?

The ally flex plate bolts right up to the th400 or 4l80 converter.

Well the T-400 seems to be working well for you at 9 seconds how do you like it and do you think it can be pushed harder??? The Turbo 400 would be a lot cheaper and I know them well just haven't seen a lot of them used behind the diesels and the talk around the forums seems to lead down different paths.
I still haven't decided what class to build for kind of thinking pro street and keeping it licensed so I can roll into a few local car shows a year...

Brett is running a turbo 400 and made like 1700+ at the tires I think... Also ran like an 8.51? Not sure how much faster you want to run.

I've only skimmed this thread so sorry if the post is no help

If you back half it, you're in Pro Street (like Brett and whole host of other super fast cats!). Super Street (approaching untouchable for most as well) is supposed to be OE frame and traction bars only. No ladders or more than two-link rear suspensions.

Is your truck a trailing arm rear suspension or is it leaf springs? I'd think you could get away with a pretty healthy racing suspension with an OE-based trailing arm setup and coil overs. I think brett's was like that prior to going back-half and 4-link.

OK I have come up with a concept for this truck... I am thinking about trying to keep the duely look.
What I have in mind, is of course lightening it up by keeping the eight lug duely front and building a factory looking duely short box, using regular short box sides and the fenders from a stepside.
I would fill the space in the rear of the duely looking box sides wit big slicks...

I have done the gas thing the whole point of this build is NHRDA competition and my support expects it to be a diesel....
