I had a fatty tissue removed a little while ago... which required surgery, I just got the bill in the mail $9,000 for 35 minutes I have to pay right at $3,000. Looks like no built engine for me, and odds are im getting out of the "game" I was expecting $1,000-$1,500 at most not $3,000. What a shitty day :(

Yet they don't cover it all?

They covered $6,000... what is really shitty is my doctor said she could have done the procedure in her office but just in case it was cancerous it would be best to perform the surgery in the hospital so the specimen could be sent out "live" to ensure the proper test would be performed. Im pissed at her the most she should have let me the costs were going to be about 300% greater. So f**king gay. My truck is paid off as of this month so now im looking at another 5 months of $600.00 a month payments YES!!!! FMMFL

hell no I have full 100% medical coverage PPO Blue Shield

Thats crazy, I have blue shield northeastern and the most I pay for anything is $50 bucks and thats only if I go to the ER.. I know sometimes I will get crazy bills from the hospital/ER's saying I have a sizable outstanding balance but it always ends up being something to do with the insurance paying the bill in stages. If you have not made some calls yet I would advise you do so, 3k on a 9k bill is crazy..

We know the feeling here too. My wife had surgery in January and we have the same coverage.I don't understand how people get by without it.

:( That amount does not sound right Nick. Unless you have a high deductible like Ed said.

I have a high deductible but I have a Health Saving Account to help with taxes.

If it's not a high deductible call me. I used to do medical billing for a living.

There should of been an insurance write off. Unless the hospital is not contracted with BS. If they where not contracted, I would found out with the contract rate was and fight it or have your doctors office go to administration and tell them they screwed up.

I don't even have a deductible :( the hospital opens at 8am you can bet that I will be calling. This makes me sick to my stomach. Plus I have to pay over 500$ in physical therapy bills from a non related incident

Have you seen your insurance explanation of benefits yet? Make sure you get a copy. Sounds like the hospital isn't contracted with Blue Shield.

Not to mention my doctor during our visit told me that it was a quick very non-invasive surgery(which it was) that would take about 15 minutes. This is a quick break down of what they charged me.
For the first 30 minutes I was charged $4289.00
They also added an extra 15 minutes of surgery for $3444.00

All I was given was a local as well... im literally about to go into melt down mode this is bullshit

Nick that sucks but you have a PPO. That means you pay a percentage of your bill. If youbhad an HMO you wouldn't however you do not have the doctor/facility choice of a PPO. Id switch your plan to an HMO.

My wife is kind of an expert on this. She says DO NOT pay ANYTHING until you receive a "Explanation of Benefits" from your insurance company. Then talk to your insurance company about the extra charges. She says you should only have to pay whatever % or amount your insurance company says to. Your doctor/hospital is trying to get you to pay the extra charges, which you are not responsible for.

Been there done that. If you get really sick you don't want an HMO if you can afford the PPO. IMO
