So who wants to/has the ability to make drop in compressor or turbine wheels for the stock IHI charger? Saw someone from TTS was attempting to do this back in '09, but haven't heard anything since. Want to play around with it, possibly port out the turbine housing and wastegate hole. Basically want to do some experimenting and testing. Please don't tell me it's not worth it or to just upgrade to a new charger. IMHO that's no fun, I want to do something unique :thumb:

I think it was yellow chevy who ported/polished the inside of the turbo and saw some good gains. I cant think
Of it right now but someone makes a IHI with an upgraded intake wheel. 63mm or 64mm i think.

DTS has the highest-flowing option available for the IHI right now. River City Diesel, Danville Performance, and a few others have options as well.

Ya, I was looking at the DTS setup. There are definitely a few options, but I want to try something myself, possibly even find someone to machine a wheel I've been designing. Gotta put that engineering degree to work!

My sponsor Boulevard Machine & Gear machines compressor wheels once in a while. They have done a couple turbine wheels but the tooling takes a beating and they try to stay away from doing them. Most of their work is all Boeing and Lockheed and misc Gov contracts for drone parts and what not. i can let them take a look at what you have and see what we can come up with.

I've been very pleased with my 64mm DTS IHI turbo, picked up 70hp/135lb-ft at 3400rpm with no other changes to the truck.

That's pretty awesome. I'll have to send over some pics of the solidworks file. Definitely interested.

Yup. Pretty sure I saw your write up on the DF. Great results. Looking to do something similar. 7 blade? What size exducer? Trim? I have my own ideas in mind, just curious what info is out there on theirs.

This is the port and polish thread.

And you can also buy a drop in batmo wheel for it which does not req mods to the turbo to do. I know you can get them from a few diff places but I know mark at danville sells them.

Thanks for the thread link. No interest in the batmo or buying a wheel though. Curious what Mark would have for opinions. Been making a push lately to learn more on EFI Live and turbo components. Always recommend my customers and pullers to Danville for both of those things. They seem to really have a handle on sled pulling, something I hope we can achieve in the near future at Full Pull.

I'd like to at least stuff a 62 in there if not a 64. Don't really see a need to upgrade the turbine. Will likely port out the housing.

I did a port and polish job on mine back in 2011 and it seems to spool twice as hard and fast as any other stock turbo lb7 I've seen. I've had a thread on it somewhere...

There's the thread from when I did mine but I guess I never took pictures of the inside when I did it I didn't realize it was a big deal to anyone else. I just figured since I already had it off and had time to kill waiting on the new turbo to come in I'd go ahead anddo it. I know SDP used to do them but idk if Scott is even around anymore since I've been away.

The 63mm LB7 Cheetah typically makes around 585rwhp, an 80hp gain over typical tune only trucks. When pushed the 63 should have no issues getting to 650rwhp, because the same wheel in the VNT cheetah has done 714rwhp. And before people flame, the same wheel made 700rwhp on huckstorfs dyno with Nick's tuning.

Is there a reason to make a 66, 71 or 75.. maybe.. but the turbine housing isn't designed to have a turbine larger than stock let alone a 73mm exducer turbine that it needs to run a 75mm wheel.

Mike Meyer just installed one and will be flogging his under my instruction, to see just how hard you can push one and what he can get out of it. I just might bolt one on a truck we just finished here that has dual pumps and 60 pct inj :)

Sure. There's already a thread here about the Dyno results his 72mm model utilizing a stock turbine wheel. It takes a little digging around in YouTube and other forums to find that no other shops IHI has made that kind of power.
