Just needed some second opinions from you guys who have real world experience:

So im 16 years old and im faced with a hard decision. My parents want me to get a really good education. Well they have helped start a private school which ive been in for 6 years. Im a junior now and the high school is really small and is not growing. Its a good school but they want the best for me so they gave me the option of going to TMI(Texas Military Institute), where i would board. The military part is optional, they have good sports, and its a good school but i really dont know if i should go or not. I think it could be good for me but im just not sure. I can come home on weekends whenever i want so thats a plus but id have on average 2 hours of hw a night and id be monitored a bit more than i am now. My dad also said that i could go for a semester and if it doesnt work he'll figure somethin better out for me. He also said if i maintain a B average he'll get me somethin like a 71.5 mm Cheetah for my truck or somethin to that extent. TMI has already accepted me and when i went to visit it seemed like itd be a good school but it really kinda worries me. I would repeat my junior year also to give me the advantage if the work is alot. What would you guys do?? I just need a few second opinions. Thanks for the help.

Sounds like you have the world by the tail. To be 16 have a Dmax with EFI live and your dad wanting to sent you to school on his dime, I'll trade places with you. No kidding, get all the education that you can. Major in something that you like and enjoy being young. It will get away from you a lot quicker than you realise.

Before you know it you will be married with kids and busting your hump to make sure they have everything they need.

Sounds like you have a great family that wants the best for you, take advantage of the oppurtunity. Good Luck.

Trust your dad. So far, has he ever let you down on what's important?

I was a "rebel" when I was your age, and had a loud motorcycle and spent my money and time hunting the girlies. But I was also very smart, and could get into any college I wanted, with very high SAT's. Heck, I maxed out the ASVAB in all categories. But I just went to work instead of school.

The biggest regret at my age is that I did not further my education when I was young. It made everything in life harder than it had to be.

Get your education, I wish I had, I never completed my college education. Fact is, if I wanted to qualify for my job today, I'd have to go back to school, lucky i'm grandfathered in :)

Nope. My dad has never really let me down and so i guess i should trust him. I wish i was as smart as you are, i dont rebel but im still not that smart. My dad thinks im really smart but i just dont try hard, which had some truth to it :D, but i wish it just came to me naturally. It used to be easy for me. I mean i knew everything, never made B's or anything and if there was bonus points to be gained i would nail it. But i skipped a grade because of my mom and im not that way anymore. Im taking a college algebra course right now and if i can pull off an 80 on the final next week ill have a solid B which would really make me happy. I think im too distracted, which is part of the problem. Trucks is all i think about, and i think im ADD lol. Im probably not but i sure have a hard time focusing anymore. If i can be happy and make somethin of my life ill be happy. Itd be nice to be able to max out the ASVAB. (By the way, what is the ASVAB :D)

ASVAB - Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery. It's how the military suggests what jobs you would be good at. Pretty much I qualified for everything, and passed the Electronic Data Processing test, which only had a 4% pass rate for those who scored high enough to take it

Like I said, your dad's job is to look out for you, and trust me, dad's are usually right.

Wow :hail2: haha

I have a feeling your right too. Everyone i have asked has said the same thing.

" Jump on that and get your education, you will regret it later if you dont"

Sounds like you are alot like me. You are smart, you just don't know it yet.

You can be anything you want in life, seriously. It's just that it takes longer if you go down the wrong path to get there.

Thats what im hoping.

Thanks for your advice. Every piece of advice you and everyone else has given me so far has really helped me with this decision. Its nice to know im doing the best for my future and its a good reality check on how fortunate i am.

Im gonna strive to stay on the right path so that i can someday be successful and hopefully do what your doing with trucks. If there is still a future in it when im old enough. I want to have another business thats dedicated to diesels after ive worked hard and started a job i really love(besides diesels) that can support a family and let me live comfortably. I need to get my priorities straight for sure. Education needs to come first even if its tough. Its nice being able to talk it out with someone other than my friends. It helps me work things out and makes me more comfortable with tough decisions. So thanks for listening to all of this. Im sure i sound pretty korny too but oh well :D:

well you and me are very simmilar in our lives. i am 18 and graduated from HS early and started college at the age of 17. today i regret not staying in school longer i really missed out on some things that i could have gained just from one more semester in HS. I now quit college and am trying to get by but realized that this is very difficult because companys only want the best of the best now and education is the only thing that will seperate you from the other guy.

so do yourself a favor and get the best education you can and forget about the truck. my truck is really what threw me off corse :( And i regret every minuite of it!!

well i am 20 and graduated HS when i was 17 and thought i could just go into the work force which turned out to not be what i wanted because all of the good paying jobs were getting filled by people with college edjucations, and now i am in college because i got offered a job that makes a little over 100000 a year and increases every year but i need to get a four year degree before i can start. I'm totaly with you on the you only ever think about your truck and school comes second because that is the way i was my first semester of college and i got C's  but now i just have to put the truck in the back of my mind an think to my self "look how much money i can spend on the truck in a few years:D" but even other than money it is about doing something that you love. there are so many things you can become and all i takes is a few to eight years of your life which is not much when you step back and look at the big picture. As for all the work, it is just practice for when you get a job, a good work ethic starts in school and grows from there.

definatly do it at that age you have nothing to lose:hug:

this reminds me i have a computer proggram to write that is due tomorrow:rofl:
